Default bogging and hesitation

2005 base M6 130,000 miles. In first sometimes it feels like it is starting in 3rd, and has now started bogging and bucking a bit until I get the RPMs. Seems to be getting worse?

Any ideas?

No idea when serviced, I bought it about 8,000 miles ago. I changed the oil and filter.

i suppose I could change the plugs and clean MAF with cleaner

I would start with the easy and simple things first.

New oem spark plugs, new oem spark plug wires, new air filters (wixs or napa golds, which are the same ones if running the stock air filter system) ,and pull the MAF sensor to clean it with Maf spray cleaner.
Note, if motor has K&N oil type filter, too much oil the filter when cleaning it, will end up fouling the Maf sensor on the quick side as well.

As for maf sensor, be gently, but is the wires on the back side inside the U's, and the bulb piece (temp sensors) that you want to clean with the spray cleaner gently, and allow it to air dry so you don't break them.

Short of that, run some Techron through the fuel to clean up the fuel system and ejectors if you have not been filling the car at top tier fuel stations, and check the fuel rail pressure to make sure it's about 58lbs, and the fuel pump is not going south.

Without a good scan tool and some basic diagnostic knowledge best solution is to take the car to a diagnostic shop that has the right equipment to diagnose this...you'll just be wasting your money on parts...I'd probably can diagnose this in 10 minutes !!

Temporarily disconnect the MAF sensor at the harness plug, if it accelerates better.... Clean or better yet, change it.

\Make certain your two air filter boxes sitting on top of radiator housing is sealing properly and is not letting dirty air in. Good luck!

This is an interesting suggestion I have not heard before - what does running without the MAF sensor do? Will the engine throw a code but otherwise run fine?

By disconnecting the MAF sensor the engine will run using “speed density” or MAP sensor input.

To further answer yes, a CEL will set. It will clear after a certain number of key on/off cycles after you plug the MAF back in.

Do the cheap, easy things first: clean MAF sensor AND throttle body, check all air intake connections between the air filter and throttle body to make sure they are tight. Pull a plug and see if they need changed. Beyond that, if you lack diagnostic skills I agree with C5 - let a good shop check things out.
