Default Service Fuel Sys

Hello all! I’m new to forum here and figured I’d get better help here. I’ve got a c6 base from 2006 w the A6 trans absolutely no options on it just straight car. Every now n then the service fuel system error will pop up, feels like it kicks me down a gear or jerks hard for a second then I’m in like a limp mode. Shortly after that happens I get a Christmas tree of lights pop up where every single light on there comes alive for a little show I guess then it leaves me with service fuel, traction, abs, systems. And those 3 will stay on after another start up. This happened twice before and I drove home, slept, morning time came I started it and no lights? Twice that happened when I bought the car and now it’s a consistent issue. I’ve tried to read everything I could on these forums about servicing the pumps and I’m slightly on the side of cutting into my trunk to access em. But I’ve also learned there’s either a fiberglass brace or something that is crucial to the rear structure of the car I have no clear answer on what it looks like underneath the trunk but the general consensus on the forums is don’t do it. I’m all for messing around and finding out but within reason for this vehicle because I’d just like to have it running smoothly before I go all out with this thing. I personally do not want to be the one to drop the rear axle to service the tanks/pumps so I asked around and I’ve been turned down from 2 shops that won’t do it either their too busy or know it’s a friggin pain. If I do have to bite the bullet and go to a dealer, ya know fine. But not before I’ve tried all possible solutions. Please, any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Here is a thread where someone has had a similar problem with the dash lighting up the error codes. Maybe try this cleaning and making sure all connections are tight as if it is this connection issue the actual systems are just fine

So at the same time I also have this odd, like a surging feeling. It’s there at idle, gets more intense faster I go. I’ve gone as fast 125 w that feeling happening trying to see if something would give. If this electrical gremlin issue is the case here how likely do you think that surging would also leave?

Just because the message says “Service Fuel System” doesn’t mean your fuel pump needs to be changed…this message can also be related to the EVAP system…as far as surging there can be many causes of this…if you have a scan tool and can interpret what the live data is telling you a diagnosis can be made…if no scan tool or knowledge you’ll just be wasting your time and money…I’d find a diagnostic shop in your area and take it there…and not to a dealership !!

Welcome to the C6 forum TDiz. There is a wealth of information you can glean from the postings and the experts on the C6. One thing that you mentioned...without dropping them, there is absolutely no way you can access the top of the fuel tanks to work on the pump system, so you can forget that thought causing you to lose sleep. If it were remotely possible, this forum would know the way and there isn't. Your car is 19 years old, so expect that you will run into a few problems, most that can be fixed with the right tools and assistance.

Good travels...GD
