It appears I have a warped rotor so I’ll be replacing brakes. What replacement is everyone using for their Grand Sport (RPO J56)? The track guys are saying drilled and slotted rotors are no longer needed and the stress at those points causes cracks. In addition, the stock pads seem to create an over-abundance of dust. I, like most, spend the majority of my miles on the highway, but there are many spirited drives along with the occasional trip to the track. With this, I certainly don’t want to go with anything that doesn’t perform as well as stock, but I also am not looking to increase performance. Obviously trying to keep a decent budget. Actual Part numbers would be appreciated if available. Thanks.
This question is a can of worms, just like oil brand questions.
You'll get answers from idiots to experts.
On my c6's, I too found that the stock pad worked well, but produced a lot of dust. I went the easy rout and went with the available GM oem ceramic pads. They work well, are clean, and I like them.
Many experts claim that ceramic pads don't work well for track cars, and I believe them. But for me, with many spirited mountain driving trips, I've never had a problem.
Just my experience. My club did hot laps at Bristol Motor Speedway last month. Some of our members ate through their right front rotors. My drilled rotors were undamaged.
