I’ve owned my ‘13 Grand Sport for four months. It has ran flawlessly with no engine codes. So, I just had a new stereo installed by Best Buy and I come back to pick it up and the check engine light is on throwing a P0171 code. Is there a chance they could have triggered that code doing the install? Or is just a coincidence?
Just a coincidence…any recent work done on your car ??…if you can look at your fuel trims you can see if you may have a vacuum leak on bank 1 (left bank)…you can look at “freeze frame” data on your scan tool and see if the RPM was near idle…if code occurred at idle most likely a vacuum leak.
Thanks for your input! I put a Corsa cold air intake on about 800 miles ago, but that’s the only thing I have done to it. I personally do not have a scan tool, the Best Buy installer showed me what the code was. What’s a good scan tool reasonably priced in your opinion?
An aftermarket air intake would cause a P0171 and P0174 for both banks depending on the manufacturer…your bank 2 fuel trims are most likely just below the percentage that will trigger that code…you don’t want to get a cheap “code reader” as they are useless for other than just reading and erasing trouble codes…you want a scan tool that can read all trouble codes other than just Powertrain codes which a code reader will only do…this Autel will read all those and is bidirectional which you can command “outputs” such as turning on a cooling fan or fuel pump and also look at inputs which you can see if you push a door button you can see if a computer can see that input.
