I have a 2007 C6. I replaced the power steering fluid and had a lot of trouble with the clip that holds the return line onto the reservoir. When I was messing with it I think the ear clamp that is pictured below came slightly loose an now I have a leak. Can I replace the ear clamp or do I need to replace the entire power steering line?
Do I need to use an ear clamp or can I use a spring hose clamp like the one pictured below?
Ear clamps are for single-use only. After removing it, you must replace it with a new one. The size of ear clamp you need for the power steering hose is 18mm. You will also need an ear clamp tool. Be sure that the tool you get works at the side of the tool as well as the end of the tool. This is necessary because many times you will not have enough clearance to use the end of the tool. Also, be aware that if the hose is old, it may be stiff and you will have leaks even with new ear clamps. In that case, you need to buy new power steering hose as well.
Is there some reason a stainless steel worm screw clamp won't work,?
Yes, you can.
But I am not a fan of work clamps. They don't expand and contract the same as the rubber hose and eventually can result in a leak. Also, they look like garbage.
You can purchase a kit with different size one-use clamps. And they do expand and contract with the hose. Also, have a better OEM look to them.
