Default Boosting a LS3

I have a 2011 manual c6 gs and am looking into boosting it through a centrifugal supercharger. The car currently has headers 1 7/8 speed engineering headers with their x pipe to the factory npp exhaust. Running a ported gpi manifold and an intake. Stock internals unopened motor, I am aware I cannot run too much boost but just looking into getting the high 500's or low 600's power wise. Anyone recommend any brands?

A&A makes a good kit as does ECS and Procharger.Just be aware that GPI doesn't recommend boost with the ported intake manifold.

Yea I have been hearing good things about A&A my main concern was the stock motor being able to hold the boost I dont mind swapping the manifold out.

Just run it on a conservative tune and you will be fine.A lot of these running around with zero issues.Any plans for a cam swap?

Honestly, I was inbetween either a NA build or just boost. I am leaning more towards boost as it will keep the drivability better and make more power. So for me it would either be boost or the heads and cam.

Walk in the park, and if just for strip use with meth kit, tuners are getting 700+ out of the stock motors. if you looking for hit after hit for longer periods, where you can get heat soak even with the meth kit, then limit the power to about 650hp instead.

As for road course work, kind of the wrong blower, since want a TVS, where not hard to get 650hp with meth kit as well, but your getting boost right off idle to grunt the motor out in higher gears via the added lower down torque from roots type blower, and not have to worry about the mid hit that you get from centrifugal blowers that will break the rear end loose when trying to come out of the apex instead.

Also, short of having to change out the old coupler on some of the TVS to new coupler style before it wears and blower sounds like box of rocks, TVS blower bearings last 100K, where as some centrifugal units, may be having to replace bearings/rebuild it every few years instead. ON the negitive note, if you where going to go to TVS unit, Maggie stop making the heart beat blowers for the LS3, which was the best blower going for that motor (better internal wet coolers, verse the single that the edelbrock TVS-2300, and it fit under the stock hood as well.

And just a heads up, but when you step up from the oem 430hp, to over 600hp, will need to bullet proof the drive line as well if your planing on using all that HP/drive line not coming apart.

The stock bottom end holding the power is going to depend on the talent of the tuner and the fuel you run. I made over 800whp with a stock ls3, the stock cam too. The only thing I had done to the engine was a set of BTR 660 springs and some stronger pushrods. I usually recommend at least doing trunnions and some valve springs if you're going to really lean on it, since I've seen a few completely stock LS3s break valve springs. Plus, added pressure from boost can cause issues with lighter pressure valve springs, which then causes misfires and you really don't want to play the misfire game on a stock bottom end.

If you want to run a decent amount of boost, I'd swap out the ported rod modded intake for just a rod modded one since the ported ones remove the internal stands that can make them weaker under boost.

I will say having two LS3 cars one boosted one NA both of them run 9s the boosted one is so much better to drive around town and take on road trips. You wouldn't even know it's modded until you go full throttle. Where the NA car has a pretty loose converter, big cam, had to put a vacuum pump on the brakes.

I'd recommend the A&A setup. I have had my 08 Z51 LS3 boosted with stock internals for 4 years and 20k miles, no issues with it at all. Mine dynos at 550RWHP, and the power comes on linearly from 3k to redline, so it's very much like stock in normal cruising or mild acceleration, but it pulls great above 3k RPM. The stock torque tube and differential should be okay for under 600 to the rear wheels, I had the stock clutch and original driveline on my setup for most of those miles. Just had the torque tube rebuilt and new LS7 clutch installed, but it was due to the bearings aging out, the couplers and OEM clutch were not bad. It would have had to be done even with the stock engine due to mileage (I'm at almost 100k).
The guys at A&A are local to me, I know their build quality and technical expertise, so that's why I would recommend them for what you're trying to do.
Good Luck!
Joe
