Recently came across a deal for a msd 2step launch control module. I wanted to know peoples opinions on it and if its worth the purchase. I also want to know peoples experience installing the thing and if its crazy tedious — i haven’t worked with too much wiring/electrical stuff
To my understanding, it cuts the spark plugs at a certain rpm but not the gas? Could this cause any short term damage? I’m looking to use it at the occasional drag strip night and to show off to some friends ofc.
Not worth the money or hassle. I never found it to be of value even racing my '68.
On the other hand MSD ignition boxes such as the 6AL are great on cars with distributors. But anything dis, they are less desirable. Now with modern ignition systems, coil on plug, and everything being computer controlled they're all but useless.
What do you find not valuable about being able to set your launch rpm fo consistent launches without needing to hold the pedal at a certain level to hold rpm?

I find it way too easy to hold my foot on the pedal at 3k and feather the brake and gas. Using the launch control was ok, but for the money?! Heck no. So no value. The 6AL rev limiter set at 6500 was great. The pro billet with the advance locked out, was great. The launch control, no.
Also, it kinda felt like when I was a kid and just stomped the pedal.
Bud Johnson had his '69 so dialed in he didn't even shift. He used a solenoid on a 2 speed power glide. Where's the skill in that. He won so many Bracket races it was insane, but again how much skill went into the driving? The building ABSOLUTELY!!!!!
I'll just take a tesla to the track and crush 90% of the cars there. But there's no sport in that.
I guess a huge part of it for me is/was what so many see in a M/T vs an A/T.
