Just get in there and yank them off. Chances are, they're likely fused to the top of the spark plugs and will seperate into pieces once you pry/pull/cajole thos damn things off.
Simply go to Summit or GMParts and order up a new set. Be sure to get di-electric grease for the caps, too.
New plugs and wires and you'll be set. You'll have to reuse your tubular aluminum heat shields (close to the exhaust.)
Don't know how many miles you have on these plugs, but if they are the originals, then new plugs & wires is money well spent.
I use a pair of pliers that are curved at the end that follow the plug diameter contour. Let me know if you want a pic.
Just wait until you see the condition of the 19 year old plugs...if you have a lot of miles on them.
Thanks so much. I didn't think there was a way to do it without sacrificing the wires but as you said, if the plugs are original, it will be well worth it.
Thanks again.
well I grab the exposed boot portion, and give it several good "twists" before pulling on it. Generally they will come off correctly, but unfortunately you occasionall "gut" one or two.
I just replaced plugs & wires and simply gave the old ones a twist and pull. It took a good pull but they all came off without any issues. I removed the metal heat shields and installed them onto the new wires. Good luck.
Finally got the wires off the plugs and replaced plugs and wires. There are only 2 things I dislike less than changing these wires and plugs and that is chewing on a piece of aluminum foil and shaving my head with a cheese grater!
Again, thanks to everyone who helped with this issue.
