Most likely we will have a new can of worms specific to the C6. I just wish GM would stick to one body style long enough to completely work out the bugs.

How about selling it without the bugs. 8 years is plenty long for one "body style" no matter how nice it is. Ford had 25 years to work out the bugs in the Fox based Mustang

Well, some of the bugs were just plain ridiculous. Cars have had Emergency brakes for decades (Why is the one on the C5 so sick - no excuse).
The same with the Column locks.
And, the plastic gears in the pop-up headlights (the fixed that in the C6, but the issue remains in the C5, even in the replacement part.)
The noise has been reduced. To eliminate it completely would cost 2 tenths of a second in zero to 60 times. I'll live with a little noise. ;)
This is one of my least favorite C5 traits (this plus road noise). I was depressed to read your post that GM was not able to fix the marbles in C6! Can you cite your sources? Also, would love to understand the 0.2s slowdown concept.
Well, bad news maybe, if the C5 recall is any sort of hint about the column lock, GM didn't fix it :cry Seems that GM didn't even state it was an issue in the recall notice and the fix, get this, is to shut the fuel off when the column is locked. So now, instead of just having your column lock you don't get any fuel(which doesn't matter since you aren't going anywhere) but I would think a "stand" up company would have acknowledged the problem and fixed it instead of ignoring it completely(it is a PCM recode). I think the C6 could be in trouble......

GM won't fix it because GM can't fix it. The noise is integral to the transmission. F-bodies, Vipers, and other cars that use the same transmission also have the same noise. The only way to get rid of it is with heavy sound deadening materials, moving to an all-new transmission, or making the exhaust so loud that you can't hear the "marbles" over it.
Too bad more of that 'proprietary technology' couldn't have been used to eliminate the marbles-in-a-can! I don't mean to be offensive, and I suppose I should give the benefit of doubt until I hear it, but judging from the list of C6 features, they seemed to have tackled nearly every key shortcoming of the C5 (and then some!). Including reduced road noise. This one (marbles) must be a tough nut to crack, because it was so apparent on the C5 it must have been on the list during C6 development.
Sure would be interested in more technical details on this. Links anyone? Books?
As for "...GM can't fix it.", wonder if there are any GM powertrain engineers willing to comment?
