Default C6 track car?

Ok guys, here's the deal. I need a new track car and really want the new C6 Z06. However, i need something now and obviously it's not available.

So, my thought is to buy a regular C6 now and trade it in on a Z06 in the future. I will be replacing the brakes, shocks, and seats at a minimum and also installing a cage or harness bar of some sort.

So I have two basic questions. First of all, do you think there is any reason why the shocks, brakes, seat and cage I buy now will not be able to be moved to the Z06? Next, is there anything else necessesary to make the C6 a very competent, safe, and reliable track car?

Thanks,
Steve

When you say track car, are going to use it for DEs? or set up for racing?? If set up for racing look at the rules of the racing orgainzation class you wish to run in.

any time you put a cage in a car for get resale value. To install the cage properly, too much cutting and welding must be done and it is not really replaceable or movable to another car if installed propely the first time. Once a cage is put in a car it stays in that car.

The corvette brakes are actully very good. They just need race pads and better brake fluid. Rember no drilled and slotted rotors if you want your bakes to last more then one weekend on the track

A race seat is a given. Other things to think about are brake cooling ducts, some suppension modifications, like the T1 if you only run on smooth tracks. for racing a fire suppression system. ect ect ect

Wheels and tires, at least two sets of race wheels, three are better. All Identical. Again depending on if you really race the car you are limited on what you can use do to the rules. For DEs you are open.

The other two items you should consider if you have not, a tow vehical and an enclosed trailer.

as far as just starting I would not by a C6 but get a slightly used C5 ZO6 to get started. The C6 ZO6 does not fit into any race classifications yet and may not until 2007 - a year after it comes out. and even then may not fit into any classification excpet ALMS GT2, or FIA-GT2

The C6 with Z51 is classified for SCCA T1 with some minor modifications allowed for suppension and wheels only. You can down load the SCCA GRC rules from their wed site. http://www.scca.com

Many ppl purchase a salvaged titled car with a straight frame and then build the race car. Figure $50,000+ to build a race car plus the cost of of the car. A great DE car can be built for much less.

thanks, I should have been more clear. I just use the car for DE's, no organized racing. I do about 30/year.

I do not need a full cage. Just a harness bar. Does somebody make a good one? For shocks I will probably go with Penske triple adjustables and then move them over to the Z06 when it's time. For seats I assume just about anything will fit. Wheels/tires I will probably go with Fikses and some sort of R-spec tire.

I do not have/want a tow vehicle. That is the entire point of me buying a street legal car...otherwise I'd buy a Radical.

Could you point me in the direction of some vendors that would be helpful?

Thanks,
Steve

Ok Steve Cool

Hardbar makes a harness bar for the C5 and the C6. Brey-Krause makes a harness bar for the C5, dont know about the C6.

Many ppl use the CCW classic track wheels as they are very strong, light and dont cost an arm and a leg. http://www.ccwheel.com

brake pads: Wilwood H compound - hardbar sells these too

if you get a C6 get the Z51 option as it has the oil cooler that is needed for track days. Still a slightly used C5 ZO6 is a way to go too. Still need to put in the oil cooler.
