Default When Will You Changing Your Oil?

Prior to Synthetic oil changes were every 3,000-5,000 mi. With the oil remaining indicator, for my car, I’m projecting being able to go 11,000-14,000 miles between changes but will probably change it sooner. When will you change your oil?

I will probably put about 10,000 to 12,000 miles per year on my daily driver. Since about half of that will be in stop-n-go traffic, with trips of only 5-6 miles at a time, changing my oil every 6 months will be close to what the oil life indicator tells me.

When the GM oil life monitor hits 10% or less or the car oil is about a year old...

I change my oil every two weekends on the track or about 500 miles. The Dic says about 50%. Oil anaylsis says I might be able to go one more weekend, but it is too easy to change the oil and with the big 5 qt jugs at wally world makes it easy. 10 qts of Mobil 1 15-W50 and a AC-Delco UP-44 filter. $40 ( 3qt accu-sump and consistant 250* oil temp of track use )

I think the oil changing is very easy to do, Personlly I would not try to see how long you can go without changing. Especilly with a brand new car. I would only go 1500 miles if that much for the first oil change. Then 2500-3000 miles after that.

On our street '04 C5 we first changed the oil at 1000 miles with mobil 1 5-w30, Just did the second oil change at 3500 miles, DIC said 60%

Part of doing the oil change is having the Tech do visual inspetion of your car, Brakes, other fluids, air pressure, and just a general 'look' under the car.

Did my first at 700 miles and will do others at 3,000 miles. New filter each time. Found metal debris in the first oil change. Also installed a magnetic drain plug. All very in-expensive. Just my personal preference.

I have a little over 1500 miles on mine and the oil life is at 90%. I don't think I can go 15,000 miles for the first oil change. I will change it this week and depending on the miles I will probably change it once a year after that unless the monitor requires it to be changed before that. That is unless I keep driving it as much as I have over the last couple of weeks. Man it is hard to stay out of this car!
On my other cars and trucks I have always changed it at 500 miles for the first time and refilled with Mobile 1. On the ones that I put alot of miles on I will change only the filter and top it off for the first change and do a complete change the second time around. This is with Mobile 1. Clem probably has the best idea about changing the filter every 4000 miles and a complete change once a year.

GM put a lot of technology into the oil life monitor. The system is actually very good, so trust it.

Let go of the 3,000 mile oil change belief.
