My first corvette is Z51 6speed. I live in the Valley in Lost Angeles. There's a track nearby called Willow Springs. You need to be a memeber of a school to drive on the track. I'd love to open up the darn thing. So ,can anybody recomend a Valley School that's not too $? Since I've joined in the fray here , the info has been great, for a first time Corvette ownner.
Maybe off topic a bit, but how is insurance handled when on the track? I can't believe my standard policy would cover track action. Is a seperate policy/rider needed?
The insurance issue come up all the time. If you in a true Higher Performacne DRIVERS EDUCATION, with NO TIMING, NO RACING and not just lapping, but you have class room time were you talk about driving technique and vehical dynamics and AN INSTRUCTOR WITH YOU MOST OF THE TIME in your car ON THE TRACK then you should be covered.
If you just show up and hop on the track and go, maybe not. You do need to check you policy for specifics.
Yep...Good old Rosamond (Willow Springs)...that's a very fast track to start out on. Driving Concepts (an offshoot of the BMW club) does events there, NASA (less gentrified) has High Performance Driving Events (HPDE). Take it easy loading up the suspension and driving into the bumps at the apex of T8...
If you can attend on a weekday, you might want to try opentrackracing.com. I have been attending events for several years, plenty of Corvette owners. No wheel to wheel or timing, flag workers, EMT ambulance and lunch included. Classroom instruction, drive your own car, plenty of help, friendly folks and the price is right. There was a yellow C6 at the last event.
