Default C7 Performance engine speculation

If the base engine 5.5, DFI, new combustion process doesn't show it will be a big shocker! But what about the performance versions? At present you can get either a supercharged 6.2 ltr or a naturally aspirated(NA) 7 ltr.

Looking at what others are doing isn't much of a clue as we don't know what impact the "new combustion process" will have on what is doable to increase power output.

The 7 ltr doesn't appear in the running. The 7 ltr was needed to race in the ALMS. That is no longer true.

I'm willing to bet that the new block has the same bore spacing as the current block; so a NA 6.2 ltr version would be an easy do and show an interesting increase in power, say 495 hp; with the 5.5 ltr at 440 hp. About the same spread as between the current NA engines. That's without the complexity of any type of pressure boost.

As for the ZR1, should it continue, probably turbo. Only because, that seems to be the technology that other manufacturers are utilzing.

The other interesting question is the chassis. Will the current design continue? Espically if the production line is moved? Will there be an aluminum as well as steel version? Will the Corvette share chassis with Camero?

For that matter, do the people who want better interior materials really care about engines and chassis? Are those interior focused people the ones who buy Corvettes?

In general I think people who buy corvettes are less worried about the interiors and more concerned with performance.

I disagree; I'm at a point in my life I want BOTH! The Corvette has been around long enough now it deserves both anyway! Like I heard someone else say, it's long overdue!

As regards to the 6.2, a sign as to what's possible is already made. Dodge's 6.4 with variable value timing make 470 and 470. The fact Chevy is claiming 440 out of the amped up 5.5 impresses me. And honestly I hope the bore spacing does change. I don't give a flying buck about that, that's history a lot don't even know. When the ls1 became 346ci, history went down the tubes. If its easier to not use that bore spacing then don't.

I've seen speculation on this Forum that the C7 will only be a 2 year run, that it's design is set and they're now working on design of C8 that will have to meet the new 2016 regulations.

If it's only going to be a short run for the C7, we may only get one variant/engine.

Can't believe Chevy would have just a two year run, with all the costs involved in bringing out a new model.
