The only official fact is that the C7 is a completely new car, not just a revamped C6 as that drawing obviously is.
I know this is going to sound like Bill Clinton, but it depends upon how you define "completely new car". I'm sure GM would like you to believe that the C6 was a completely new car too, but the reality is that it is based upon the same frame and architecture as the C5.
I seriously doubt the C7 will be anymore of a completely new car than the C6 was. The cost would be prohibitive. But then again, the 911 Porsche is still a slow evolution of the same car that came out about 50 years ago, and looks it. Yet is still regarded by the Porsche faithful as the only real Porsche.
Say it isn't so. If that's what GM research determined the younger 'P-car' crowd wants in a Corvette were in deep sh#t. If so, the value of the C6 just rose exponentially.
Let's see. Camaro rear fascia..check. Mustang rear window and hatchback..check. CTS chrome side fender coves..check. Overly done grillage..check. No thanks on that Frankenstonian contraption.
I find it all really amusing. I absolutely have to believe the Corvette team is going to release something a heck of a lot more interesting than this concept. These concepts are good so everyone can talk about what they like or dislike on the drawings, but I'll bet the final version will be a whole lot more than this. They have too much riding on it for continued sales to produce anything for a next generation as lame as this.

We go through this speculation with each new generation. It's fun for passing the time but these reports are normally amazingly inaccurate. We'll see what comes of this when we get some solid info.
I'm first on the list at a local dealer for their C7 orders, and they have a large allocation, so I'll be good from that standpoint and should get an early one. As far as the styling, I doubt the pictures circulating are all that accurate; previous generation advance pics have never been 100% and I have no reason to think these are either. There may be design elements of that style in the C7, but not specifically as shown. (hopefully not the Camaro taillights!) I'm optimistic it will be desirable; if not I can always find a low mileage C6 if I choose to upgrade from my '05. At this point, I'm not going to spend the $ for a similar car to what I already own. I guess we'll know for sure at the Detroit Auto Show in '13. At least that is the speculation...

Good point! If this is a true representation (I doubt) then hurry and buy a 12!
It looks like GM cares about what this website publishes, otherwise they wouldn't mind to mention it in Facebook. This is probably the first time they said anything about speculations and rumors.
"Today Jalopnik posted renderings of what they think the next-gen Corvette will look like. We appreciate their enthusiasm but you'll have to wait a little longer to see what the next Corvette will actually look like."
Then Jalopnik posted in the Corvette facebook their article "GM issues weak-*** denial on our 2014 Corvette exclusive"
The drawing may not be completely accurate (on purpose), but I think it may be pretty close. I don't like it but I don't hate it yet...we'll see. That's just my two cents...
You make the most sense out of all the posts so far in this thread. GM wouldnt bother responding to a simple "guess". Something about that render bothered them enough to publicly deny it. They've never bothered to do that before with any of C7 artist sketch.
I'm not saying thats exactly what the 2014 will look like, but somebody definitely saw something. And photographed, sketched and posted it.. to draw that reaction. Chances are GM has a few prototypes.. all looking quite different.. as they R&D what design works best in terms of performance, drag coefficent, downforce, styling, weight, etc. Remember this is a car that will not be publicly shown until 2013.. meaning theres still of a year of design tweaks to be done, so whatever was seen was far from the absolute finished vehicle. That said, I wouldnt be suprised to see the real 2014 incorporate lots of the features and come close to this design.
