Horsepower is cheap and easy. It's much harder to build a light car car that doesn't need more horsepower. Personally, I would like to see the Corvette go more in the direction of being a "smart" design than simply adding more brute force, while retaining options like the ZR1. Since the Corvette is a sports car and not a muscle car, "performance" should be defined in terms of lap times, not the drag-strip.

I would also like to see them add technology like shutting the engine off at a stoplight, like the new 911 does. Why? Well, I'm no tree-hugger, but I also think efficiency is cool. I like to embrace advancements in efficiency.

The Corvette continues to have the opportunity to be one of the very best sports cars in the world, but only if they don't get preoccupied with chasing big horsepower numbers.

Down on cubes... Give me a break...

Seriously, OP, you realize that the 454 Corvette made in the 70's isn't as fast as my 346 made in 2003, right? Or the 350 made in 1996 isn't even in the same universe as my 346.

Stop obsessing over numbers (that aren't even confirmed yet) and start thinking about efficiency.

IF GM decided to go with less cubes, do you REALLY think it's going to be put in a slower Vette? And are you so worried about what a pony car and a $100+K car will do compared to the base Vette?

To answer your question, OP, "why by C7":

Don't. You're apparently obsessed with the cube-count pissing contest. I suggest you stick with your C6Z and never buy a new Vette again because you likely have the very last Corvette with a large displacement gas engine.

For me, I'll buy whats new because:
A) It's new.
B) It's more efficient (that means uses less gas to go faster).
C) It's new.
D) It will probably be faster than my LS6 Z06 in every way.
E) It's new.

Nice post! Sometimes this forum feels like the Harley forums... "you can improve it all you want as long as you don't change anything".

Why buy C7?

Doubt if I will. If my C6 sells this summer I'll be saving my pennies looking for a slightly used GTR unless the C7 is AWD, which I doubt.

I agree but at the same time there appears to be a trend of C6 owners/ soon-to-be C6 owners in C7 section who are "blind" to the Corvette moving beyond the 6th iteration. To each their own, my favorite gen is the fourth but I drool over a solid axle or a new Z06 as quick as the next guy.

New Viper is great BUT I really miss the idea of a "Dodge" Viper. I know it hasn't been that way for a while. Something I'm noticing with people being spoiled by big hp numbers is....for first time since the Viper's inception people want the base Corvette to be an immediate rival. Get real. These cars are playing out the same song and dance since 1992, with the R/T10 and ZR-1. Why people expect it to change is baffling. We don't have official hard press from the maker of the car yet many seemingly WANT the car to be a failure.

I guess I should be looking at it in a positive light: this marque has become so popular, successful and loved by so many that people have to go against the grain.

Kudos to the posters in this section that reserve judgement for the C7 yet remain excited and positive. Keeps this section from going off the deep end of doom and gloom.

Why shouldn't your C6 sell? Enjoy your used GT-R.

Thankfully the Corvette C6 does NOT fall under that description so it's highly unlikely that the C7 will either.

Maybe if I type it very slowly you will understand.

We don't think they look alike.

We just feel that there was not a significant change from the C5 to the C6. While you were not a member way back then, some of us were on this forum typing about the changes & some of the problems carried over from the C5 to the early C6. Please note there have been many improvements since the early C6's came out.

I do not know if you can search the C6 general section way back to 2004 and late 2003 but many members considered the C6 to be not that different from the C5 in many areas other then looks.

I type this because I was part of the discussion back then when I was considering purchasing a 2004 but then decided to wait for the new 2005 which I bought.

They have people who figure this stuff out long before the first frame is ever welded. They know what will sell and who it will sell to. They know who has the money to buy and what their desires are. They build within those parameters along with the cost and safety parameters. And no matter what they build it's going to be a compromise because you can't please everybody.

Viper and GTR sales numbers are peanuts. If Chevrolet planned on selling only as many units as both of those models combined, they likely would not even produce the Corvette C7 imho.
Have you seen Z06 and ZR1 sales numbers??? Not exactly selling like M&M's.

Let ME be the first to pass on both the C8 and C9. I really don't think GM is going to keep up with the competition. Maybe the C10 will bring back the Corvette's World Class Sports Car reputation?

LOL WUT?

I really don't see anyone within the price range stomping the ZR1...
And I am pretty confident it isn't going to get worse with the next generations.

True.
But is this to imply that currently, plenty of other $76k - $111k two seat sports cars are selling extremely well?
