One of the roof options is a fully body colored panted carbon fiber roof panel.
All three of the roof options are fabricated from light weight materials. Either carbon fiber for the exposed carbon fiber/painted roof or polycarbonate for the clear roof. No heavy SMC used on the C7 roof.
IIRC, Harlan said the roof is 10 lbs lighter in the Sebring video. Went from 26 lbs to 16 lbs. I will assume he's talking the standard body colored carbon fiber job. Although there's no reason the exposed/clear coated CF weave should differ significantly in weight. As far as the polycarbonate transparent one? I have no clue.
Get those huge UGLY Black wheels off the red car and maybe you will not notice how much black paint is on that car. The big ugly black wheels are an attempt to woo street racer wanna bes. Do not pay for those slugs, just do not clean the brake dust off the standard wheels and you have got the look cheap.
I, too, would like to see a red C7 with something other black wheels. I don't know what the attraction is, but since we are talking aesthetics, it's apparent that what works for one person is another's poison.
those roofs, I would think the polycarbonate (clear) roof is either as light as or lighter than the carbon fiber (unpainted) one. in the past, they've always been very light compared to the painted panels. but carbon fiber is much lighter than SMC or fiberglass.
If anyone isn't a fan of the black accents or even the accents in general, then getting the car in black would be a good idea for them as that color will do a great job of hiding it all.

I like it better this way, too! This just might be my first red Corvette. And my first coupe.

The very thin very beautiful model at the new York autoshow took off the roof in the cyber grey c7 for us ....she had no issue and it was clearly lighter than the clear c6 top..IMO
The black on the rear makes it look much worse & cheap and I've seen it in person. I have the motortrend with the yellow C7 on the front and it looks MUCH better with a solid color rear. Why is it only solid on that issue, ive never seen another like that again?

Cause MT photoshoped it?...even they knew it look better all body color!
I have the same issue....of the magazine.

I'm sure he was speaking about the CF roof on the C7 being 10 pounds lighter(which is a stretch in my opinion) then the SMC roof on the C6. Originally the C6 had a painted roof that was made from polycarbonate, but when they had to go back to using SMC(as used on the C5) I believe GM said the roof's weight increased around 4 pounds. I also believe that GM said the carbon fiber roof used on the ZR1 was around 5 pounds lighter than the SMC roof.
I love the new design, but, it seems like the blacked out portion of the rear end is too big to me. It will look ok with the darker cars but looks particularly obtrusive on the red car. I have an '06 that has just enough black on the yellow car. The C-7 seems like it's just got too much giving the appearance of an add-on part to me. It won't keep me from considering a move up, it's my only dislike. Having said that I still need to see the convertible!
Have you seen the it in person? While the car does not (IMHO) come off much better than the pictures, the rear end is far lower in person and is not as prominent as it appears in pictures shot at knee level.
GM has to put a few things on the 2014 C7 they know most people will hate, so that they have things to fix on the 2015 C7, so they can sell more 2015s.
The black rear end is one of them.
I predict for the 2015 or maybe 2016 model year there will be the option to replace the black rear end with body color. ...and viola, there will be yet another option that GM can make MORE money on.

Like I've said before, it is more likely you will come around and begin to adapt to the rear end and perhaps start to like it before GM will initiate any modifications to the design.
