I love the new design, but, it seems like the blacked out portion of the rear end is too big to me. It will look ok with the darker cars but looks particularly obtrusive on the red car. I have an '06 that has just enough black on the yellow car. The C-7 seems like it's just got too much giving the appearance of an add-on part to me. It won't keep me from considering a move up, it's my only dislike. Having said that I still need to see the convertible!
I think a little too much black.. I'm a fan of using body color as much as possible. Too much black reminds me of the cheap cladding they did on cars in the 1980's
I agree there are some design elements that could be better. Until I see the car, can't make an informative opinion. I will not paint or otherwise mess with my new car when the sticker price approaches eighty thousand dollars. I will select a color that will minimize or eliminate design features that are not to my liking.
Should be a lot of business for body shops to paint the lower rear body color.
I agree. The only thing I don't like about the C7 design is the non-body color lower bumper. If I decide on a color other than CG or Black, I will have it painted to match the body. Lot's of vehicles do this (have a large piece of black or grey in the lower rear bumper) and I hate it universally
Agree. Black grill, black hood vent, black fender vents and half the rear is black. Many of the body colors will not look good with the black. Just my two cents. I will be getting a C7. Cannot wait.
Yep. I like the taillights but the rest of the stern is to much a mish mash of clashing elements and the big black area reminds me of the lower body cladding that marred so many GM products in the past. No questions asked a dark color for me and like others here, also to help hide the "Look at my vents!" syling on the rest of the car.
I guess if GM could build a car like a Chinese Resturant Menu we could all build the car we want. Of course that would kill the aftermarket. There is no way they could build a car to please everyone, especially the forum. So I simply look at what I like and am pleased. I look at what I do not like as an opportunity. There is almost no part off a C5 or C6 you could not change using aftermarket parts , inside or out.

Considering the overall design and size of the rear, I actually agree with their use of black. My take on it is that if it were all body color, it would look huge, from top of the spoiler/lip to around and below the tailipes. I don't know how many inches it is, but I'd bet the overall top to bottom is somewhere around 24"+. Yes, it is broken up with creases and curves but that would still be a lot of single color imo.
I think what they need is less back there, but I'm not a designer and don't know what they had to fit into the area underneath/behind it all, even aerodynamics. I will say that rear facia panel if that's what it's called is a prime candidate for real or fake carbon fiber. jmo.
Unless you get Cyber Grey or Black, I think the rear end with all that black looks cheap. Notice how two of the 3 showcars (Coupe and Convertible) are painted Cyber Grey? They look so much richer looking than the Red showcar.
I've seen the car in person. That black lower valence is much smaller in the flesh than the photos depict. You can't tell with the photos but it rolls under the rear of the car and isn't as flat as it looks in the pictures. When you see it first hand, much of what you see in pictures dissaears under the car. I'm 5' 6" tall (more like short) and I think the top of it was well below my knee and at mid calf. Then again, the rear deck of the car is lower than photos depict too. I suppose on the red car it might stand out but not much more than the rear valance on the C6.
I think it looks fine as is, but I'm sure there will be plenty of after market options for those who want to change things. And there will be endless discussions about whether the changes are actually better or not.

Get those huge UGLY Black wheels off the red car and maybe you will not notice how much black paint is on that car. The big ugly black wheels are an attempt to woo street racer wanna bes. Do not pay for those slugs, just do not clean the brake dust off the standard wheels and you have got the look cheap.
