After seeing the video's on the C7 all I can say is WOW! This car looks awesome and it appears they improved every single aspect of the car. The C6 was not enough of an improvement over the C5 to get me to make a change but this new car has me seriously considering an upgrade.
Anyone else in the same boat?
I agree. I sold my 05 C6 to buy another C5 Z06, which was the superior car. The C7 is a monster. If my C5 was not highly modified, I would be dying for a C7!
Not really, just stating that for less money, I have a mostly superior car to a C6Z for less money, due to the fact C6 was more or less a body update.
I got a feeling a 600+chp Z06 is in the works, and that'll be plenty enough for me to take the plunge into monthly payment land. I've never made payments on a car, nor have I ever bought a car BRAND new off the lot. C7Z will be my first.
I have been trying to figure out if I'm going to keep or sell my C5Z when I go to buy a C7 (which is going to happen either way).
Then yesterday I saw a gorgeous black C5Z on the freeway next to me while I was heading into Los Angeles and realized I still VERY much love the look of the C5Z and still really love my current C5Z. So I'm going to try to buy the C7 without selling my C5z... And instead, I'm going to sell my Toyota Camry if I need any extra money for the down payment. LOL

The C7 definitely makes the C5 look aged... heck, it makes the C6 look aged. I dont buy new and the 5.5L does nothing for me... but I'm definitely looking forward to a 3-4 year old C7Z in 4-5 years... I'm guessing the Z version will be out as a 2015 model.
Will not be selling my C5Z... Speedway White is too rare and the 427 is a nostalgic engine... I have the best of both worlds with my current setup.
The C5 already looks aged. In 2-3 years, the C5 will be ancient just like the C4 is today.. Good car for the value if u don't mind the outdated looks and interior. C5 was one of my favorite cars of all time. Life moves on, if you can afford the C7, go for it. Experience the car with modern technology. Wish the base C7 can at least match the C6 Z06 505HP like the base C6 did to the C5 Z06

It's a slam dunk, no-brainer going for a C7 IMO.
I'd advise getting your seed money out of the C5 while you can, since there'll be a lot of C5 & C6 dumping activity from here on out. The C7 makes 'em both rather archaic, IMO. What a statement the new C7 makes!

I'm definitely jumping ship, I love my C5 but it's time for a change, my baby is getting old and tired (2003), I have to replace my wiper transmission on Monday, the seats are getting worn, minor things are starting to creep up, it's time for a change. I'll miss the top down driving, I'll have her for one last summer then on to the classified she goes, had her for going on 6 years and she's been a lot of fun but I like the C7 too much not to get one.

Of course I'll brag.... I built the engine, did most of the bodywork, done the custom interior, and installed most of the suspension, BUT did sub out the clutch job.
Why do all this work and expense to just pretend it doesn't have it? That's the main reason I'm not jumping on the gotta have it now bandwagon, just saying.....
Later in a few years I will... what's the big deal? Anyone with 2 eyes can tell something bothers you?
Edited: Maybe we should just send our replies to you first so you can evaluate what I or any other person can post ....maybe get a Red Racer Stamp of approval?
You know, you are right. I was out of place to judge your post and I apologize for my off-handed comment that belittled your work on your C5.
The C7 doesn't float my boat. The front isn't bad, but the Camaro rear is. And why must GM put that stupid chrome bar in the center of the black grille - that would be the first thing I'd remove. VVT is quaint, but certainly nothing new. I would have been more impressed if GM would have utilized Orbital Engineering innovations with a smaller displacement aluminum block, DOHC engine with forced induction. I would have loved to have seen a lighter, small displacement engine (2.0-2.3L) w/500 HP.....but until then, I'll buy another C5 Z06 with low mileage and sell my present high-mileage one.
I don't think it looks "dated". Especially if you have some things done to it to make it stand out from a stock one. I still love the hidden headlights and I think they should have brought them back into the design of the C7. The C5 looks very smooth and sexy. I remember the first time I saw one at a show, I was amazed with how beautiful it was. And for those who have modified them, there may not be a justification yet to consider the C7. Can't wait to see one in person though. Anyone know when we will start to see them on the road??

Yea, I don't know what photo you've been looking at. They did a concept car with a split window, but the whole retro thing was scrapped and thank gawd.

His comment was 'tongue in cheek', he didn't mean to imply anything.

Great idea! Boost a motor till it's at 3.5-4.0 hp/cu-in and see if you can make it last.
Listen, when you lean on a motor like that, it's gonna come apart. Not to mention, a 4 cyl like that is gonna vibrate you till yer *** is numb. Furthermore, how much torque do you think that 2.3L is gonna make?
Almost --every body style makes the previous models look old.
That's ok I still like the C-1. My Mod C-5 will stay in the garage.
I may buy a C-7 after I see it in person and drive it. Of course
I will change just about everything on the car to my own tastes.
So don't expect me to own a stock vette not even a C-7.

Good reason why we will never see pop up headlights again. They were mandated out of existance by the ECE, not by changing taste. But were they great on the track. Blasting down the back straight at Daytona at 150+ MPH, heading for the bus stop. Brake hard, down shift and raise the the headlights(air brakes) to help preserve the brake pads. Then, when heading into turn 3, lower the air brakes, hit the gas and upshift. Repeat going sown the front straight heading for the infield course.

YEP! But I've still got a couple things to accomplish with my C5. After I've had my fun with those, I'll be skipping the C6 to go to a C7 for my next Vette.
The replacement of the current engine formula, which has been in use since 1997 is influenced by industry executives as they wish to add fuel economy and relevancy to road car production. IRL presidents Brian Barnhart and Terry Angstadt are confident of car manufacturers' interest as the engine size reduction was agreed with them at a meeting in June.
While change is certain, the upcoming meeting will focus on deciding which formula to use exactly. Erik Berkman, president of Honda Performance Development, said the debate "is over four (cylinders) or six."
It is still unclear what the specific configuration will be, but considering "one concerns a twin-turbo", we estimate the choice will be between a twin-turbo 4 cylinder or a turbocharged 6 cylinder engine.
The regulation change also aims to increase IndyCar's engine horsepower from 650 today to approximately 750hp.
The latter should be no problem, as in Formula One's turbo era, some engines managed to produce as much as 1300hp with a displacement of just 1.5l. It should therefore also be no surprise that Renault, who introduced turbo engines to Formula One, is pushing for a similar regulation change in F1 by 2012.
As I mentioned in my above post, a stock Saab engine, with no internal modifications, can safely make 450 HP with only external (turbo, headers, injectors, software) modifications. Also, your concerns about torque only reflect your ignorance about forced induction motors. The only issue where you raise a legitimate concern is with vibration - a V-8 is inherently smoother than a V-6 or in-line 4. But, a V-12 is inherently smoother than a V-8. Nevertheless, there are constraints to any engine design and vibration has not hindered the adaptation of 4 cylinder engines to motor vehicles, whether they are road vehicles or Indy cars.
