Exactly, that is why I posted a C7 Z51 3LT is probably in the 70 to 75k range. That is a steal IMHO, a Porsche Carrera S starts at 99k, when you option it for real leather, etc. you get to about 125k quite easily.
GM gives you a choice to enter into a C7 probably in the low to mid 50's, and some people will be happy with that degree of technology & performance with a vinyl interior, then you upgrade from there.
The seats, steering wheel, and shifter are leather in the base car, yes it has plastic dash and trim too, same as that 99k base Porsche 911 S.
Yes the C7 can compete and beat many much more expensive automobiles, but most of those vehicles really offer extremely poor value for the money. That just isn't what GM does.
GM also recognizes that their is money to be made in Service, parts, volume sales for the dealer and their personal, keeping the factories humming, and amortizing the development cost of a new vehicle over more units.
It is a mistake to think that engineering a proper interior cost so much money. My Hyundai has a great interior, far superior and more sporty than any Vette, and the car cost $33K.
A high number of sales of the C7 Corvette is in the cards. GM has already stated that they intend to sell something like 30K annually of them. I expect the price for the base model to be very competitive. Low 50s all day long.
Lastly, I make a pretty good living. In fact combined w/ my wife's income we are in the top 4% of wage earners in the USA. But I have a limit of about $60K for a new car. I just can't see spending more than that as the VALUE just goes way down. I don't think I'm alone. People are watching their money more closely these days.
There are two factors at work here. The first is the price of the car compared to perceived value. Second is the price of the car compared to the happiness it brings to the owner.
If you say I will only spend $60,000 that is what it is worth to you. If you say I will find a way and maybe give up something else so that I can have his car because it brings so much to my enjoyment of life.
Both are correct perceptions and personal preference.
Not if they would lose their shirts to do so. You are clearly assuming they won't pick up other buyer because they offer more VALUE for what you are really getting.
GM has to balance it all of course. But it certainly doesn't make sense to me to add all of this to a base car and not raise the price a bit. How much that is, we just don't know yet.
We'll see who is right after they announce the price on the base coupe. All I am saying is that it makes no sense to price it at $59k or anything close to that.

$59K for the base car would be a steep price increase unless the base C7 has lots of features that were optional on the base C6.

Well, all I am saying is you don't know the whole story yet and I don't think it will be that high but I don't know the whole story yet either.
I personally don't mind if they set it at $59k, but if they do.. please don't drop the price or do any GM deals or offers. That will only drop the price and resale value. We would like to keep our resale high.. we all do.
DreamerAK--- I read in Motor Trend that the seats were vinyl with double stitching. MT also quoted $59K as the price for the base model. I think that price is the base price for the car they tested which I believe was the Z51 model. I do believe that the base car has vinyl seats.

According to the sales brochure Moulan Leather GT seats are standard. This is preliminary so it could change.

In the motor trend article, they were referencing the dash would be cut and stitched vinyl standard, not the seats. I think the seats would be leather as stated.

Are you suggesting the guy in the process of being banned lied?
