I have owned many European sports cars. This will be my first Vette. I have put $$$ down to secure my position in line with my favorite local dealer. My wife and I plan to do some road time in the car traveling the USA. I will order a grey/black 3LT loaded. Any suggestions for a first time order/owner? Is the Museum Delivery something we should seriously consider?
Is your "favorite local dealer" one that sells a large number of Vettes? If not, they will have trouble getting allocations (no allocation, no vette). Dealers do not yet know what their initial allocations will be, but if they did not sell 4 vettes last year, their allocation will be zero for the first few months.
I have my money down with a forum dealer and will be doing Museum delivery and a nice backroads journey home. My wife and I have done Route 66 in my C6 and plan to do more similar road trips in the C7.
As already stated, make sure that you r dealer will have an allocation for the C7. If so you are all set. If not I would contact one of the many forum vendors. You may even get a better price.
As for the museum delivery option I would plan it, especially in your case as you mentioned wanting to do so road trips and see the country. No better way to start then at the museum and go from there.
I'm wondering for all those like me who never owned a corvette and now want to switch.
Are the rest of you who are switching to the corvette for the first time from other cars, what are you switching from?
If its from a m3 or boxter I understand the switch but I am coming from a 13 shelby and I am sure other people are coming from other cars like the GTR, zr1, etc... would you really think it is worth the switch for less performance?
I mean the c7 base is beautiful and has a lot of stuff but at only 450 hp and tq it won't give the rush a zr1,z06, shelby, or any ferrari, lambo etc would.

I had a C6 a few years ago....Sold it because (??????) what an idiot I was....I missed it tremendously.....landed into daily drivers, 335 and now a 535i M sport.....and fell in love with the new 991 S.....but, the C7 is so so so so much more exciting to look at then the 991.....and Im shocked im saying that.....it excited more passion then anything i have seen for a long time....Thus, C7 Z51 for me asap.....I am doing the private viewing this wednesday in Toronto

You aren't going to wait for the c7zo6 version to have more hp and be faster?
See I thought it would be enough to have a fully optioned z51 3lt but I don't think it will make me happy from a power point of view. But I don't know if I need a zr1 either. Zo6 would be good but then I rather have the current zr1 than z06 but I don't have 130k to spend just maybe 95-100k max lol. PROBLEMS!! decisions decisions

Hey, for you guys who did museum delivery, which is what I am going to do...do you fly to Nashville, rent a car, get a hotel near the factory , get your car, drop off the rental and be on your way ? Also I am driving back to Seattle, I'am worried about rock chips, is there a bra you can get at the factory or museum, just to get me home? thanks Mike

IMO, not very many ZR1 owners will get rid of theirs to get a current C7...most will wait for the future
high-performance iteration of the C7. And even then, I suspect many will keep their C6 ZR1s anyway.
There was a recent thread on this in the ZR1 section essentially reflecting these thoughts...

My ZR is staying. Just too damned much fun to drive. Now adding a C7 to the stable down the line . . . . . that's a possibility.

Bingo. Better make sure your "favorite local dealer" is going to get allocation.
Or better yet contact one of the forum dealers that have a proven track record.
