Let the auto mags test one
If this car is as good as we think it is why doesn't GM lend out one of their pre-production cars and let the magazines flog it ? Seems to me that this would show the confidence they have in the product as well as validate some of the things they have been saying. I know some of you are going to say that the cars now are largely hand built but the parts are finalized at this stage of the game so the test would still be valid.

Seems to me we had Viper pull this kind of thing with Motor Trend and then whine and moan afterwards that it was just a mule.

I think Chevy is chomping at the bit to give this to the press. I think they are very happy with what they've done.
But, they are not going to give it to the press until they are happy with it as a production model. No one wants what happened to McLaren ever again.

Waiting 2-3 months for test data is not a big deal.

Nothing good comes from a pre-production car getting reviewed. Any irregularity that would have been corrected gets exposed and magnified. Final content can still change. Tooling can still get modified. Suppliers need time to dial in their processes. Once it sees print, it is law on the forums and any deviation will bring out the conspiracy theorists.
For what ever credibility I have on the forum, I'll offer my statement that it is not only as good as it has been described, it's better.

I would not doubt if there is some kind of moratorium on the press to release all their tests/reviews at the same time, usually when the mags release to the newstands -- to get the maximum impact and also to not offend any of the major reporting organizations.
After that, then they work downhill.
I can guarantee one thing... there are many, many people involved in GM's PR department on this to get the biggest bang for the buck. It's not going to happen by accident unless it's a screw up.

If I'm going to read a review about the car from an independent source, I want that review to be from an example on the showroom floor. I want the details on the very car I will be spending my hard earned money on, as it is being sold. Not a pre-production premodonna car prepped for the review.

My guess is that is not going to happen. GM wants the PR to start before actual production so that sales will go up an continue. Some of us are early believers but that's not enough to get the ball rolling and keep going.
I would guess that those 6 cars you saw outside the bash event were press cars headed soon for their PR tests and dealer events.
Just as a guess... I would say that before July, the press will have their reviews and ready to launch them in August just about as the first ones start to be shipped to the showrooms.
Some of us are buying early cars. I would bet that there are a lot of dealers who also are buying early ones for their customers or demo models to get more sales. We just fit in the queue with them.
They are not going to wait for all the early adopter cars are finished before shipping dealers. There's going to be a flow and plan for each.

Would you consider Motor Trend an "independent source?
They really sold themselves down the river even more than most with "their" Viper and the bj they gave to Ralph Gilles when he bitched and moaned like a child.
