Default Anticipated Problems with C7

This is not meant to be a criticism of the C7 just a reality.

For the first couple years of every generation there seems to be problems. What problems/malfunctions do you see with the C7 for the first few years?

Do you think we'll have flying roofs again like we did with 2005-2006
C6 models or anything that serious?

A lot of people I've spoken with are concerned about AFM, but that technology has been around since the 90s I believe.

Thoughts?

AFM was a problem in the Gen IV engines. We'll see how well GM fixed it.

DI has potential issues with carbon build-up on the intake valves.

Rev matching is new in this application, it could have issues.

otherwise just typical build-quality stuff that gets fixed during the first couple of years of new gen vehicles.

The first year buyers will have issues maybe even a recall or two its like that with all new car platforms. A first year car is very risky second year a little less, and by the third year GM will be making the car they intended to make in the first place. You can be sure there will also be many software rewrites on the 2014s so just be prepaired to be at your dealer often.

A buyer should know going into a new generation that the chance of problems is greater than a few years into a generation. If your situation/daily routine does not fit well with a car that may need a recall or two, wait a year or two to buy.

I'll be a first year guinea pig. All I ask in return is that the car gets fixed properly by GM rather than them half-assing the fixes like they've done in the past. That is quite important to me.

Really???? You think a problem that was solved 7 years ago is going to resurface?

I think we should wait for real world reports from folks that have taken delivery of their car.

It is always difficult to do a complete redesign without some issues. What they will be NO ONE knows.

I believe any issue that crops up gm will find a solution for. I've bought many new vehicles over the years..first year of a new generation and usually now a days it's just recalls or TSB s on updating electronics..

Nothing to worry about other than having the coin to purchase the car and dropping off the new car for a few TSBs ..

Got the need, got the money I suggest buying with confidence.

I agree, worthless post. Every car when a model change occurs will have some issues. Who gives a s$%t. Nothing to get worried about but I guess if you have nothing else better to do with your time at least it gives you something to talk about. The car looks great, I may or may not buy one, like the potential problems, time will tell.

Who knows. Personally I don't think there will be any serious issues. I'm confident with my first year purchase. I've had GM DI before (Cadillacs) and new model first year builds and they have been problem free.

The C7 will widen the performance gap with Porsches costing the same or even double than that of the Corvette. There will likely be jealousy from the Porsche boys to be dealt with. Their usual tactic of diverting the issue with talk about the overall "Porsche experience" is ridiculous and getting pretty old at this point. Look at what a 60 thousand dollar C7 will do to a new Porsche with the same price tag, laughable!

Just a couple of data points...

I have a 07 Saturn Sky Redline with DI and it has been completely trouble free.

The AFM in my 08 Silverado was complete garbage but the AFM in my 12 Avalanche works perfectly.

Yeah, actually the DI on the Solstice GXP we had was pretty good. No issues at all with the engine or drivetrain.

But there were tons of issues with the Solstice, mostly all being crappy material usage.

For one, both door handles came right off while trying to open the doors from the outside. Turned out they used plastic retainers for the door pulls. (And made us come back for the second door when that one broke, rather than just replacing it with the new metal retainer ahead of time.)
