I have a red C6 Z06 that came with chrome spiders. I love the car, but I continually keep trying to figure out what doesn't fit...and for me it was the chrome wheels. High end sports cars (Porsche, Ferrari etc.) do not have chrome wheels, it's an 80's look for guys with gold chains (IMO).

I do like the look of polished aluminum or a machined face wheel though, shine without being in your face. So last week I pulled the trigger on a new OEM set of 60th anniversary machined face/gray Cup wheels, with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's from Corvette Garage. Nate is taking my tires/wheels in on trade, so I'm very happy with the deal.

They will (for me) have the look that I have been wanting...authoritive sports performance, with a distinctive understated shine.

With all that being said, it's an individual choice that shouldn't be chastised....unless you wear gold chains and white loafers.

I like polished wheels, since they were not offered I settled for chrome.

I think younger drivers (under 50 years old) prefer black wheels with painted calipers for the same look as modern supercars Lambo and Ferrari.

Older drivers (50+ years old) probably prefer chrome as that is what was popular when they were younger.

Silver wheels hurt you less when you curb them.

I agree with ptran00. At 49 (soon to be 50), I've made the same observation that younger guys typically prefer black wheels whereas older guys (I guess I'm included in this group now) tend to prefer the chrome wheels. Generally speaking.

Corgidog1 is right. If for some reason you get "curb rash" on a black wheel you are likely to scratch the black finish and expose the underlying metal (silver aluminum) which would stick out like a soar thumb and be very visible.

hmmm, 5 years later and this post resurfaces. Go figure.
But since, I'm here...I'll add my 2 cents.

I love chrome as the shiny gleam makes the car really pop. The downside is that they are a major PIA to keep clean and shiny all of time especially with all of the nooks and crannies gathering brake dust. I really like the machined wheels as they don't have the dullness of silver only and they don't have the black void that certain black wheels have. Machined wheels are a happy medium.

First off, never get the stock chrome wheels. Do the wheel exchange and get GM wheels with a better chrome finish than the factory wheels and save yourself $ 1000.00. Second, they really aren't as hard to keep clean and polished as painted silver or black wheels. Plus in time all the painted wheels will chip and stain. I know the impression is that they're only for old farts but chrome is used on all sorts of items to "protect" the base metal. It's not being older, it's reality. But if you're a slave to trends and really believe they look better and in same cases they do, then go for it. I just get tired of the BS and sniping by the "black wheel harp out loud crowd".

Mike, would you mind elaborating on the following parts of your statement above?

What is inferior about the OEM/GM wheels?

In your opinion what wheels are you referring to that have a better chrome finish than the factory wheels?

Thanks.

This Z06 is downright gorgeous!!........Love the wheels and love red especially with all body coloured mirrors top and no hood strip....To me this is perfect and the exact way I would order one...I see you got louvers or slot covers on the fender that's a nice touch and not over done...Congrats!!!!...

I've had chrome or polished wheels until I purchased my 2017 GS. I saw the following GS at the Chevy display at Sebring last year with the standard wheels and thought they were stunning.

So I bought this..

Thanks svtkeith. I ordered this Grand Sport exactly how I wanted it. Couldn't find what I wanted on a lot anywhere in the US and looked for 6 months, constantly chatting with Chevy's online chat folk using their database to find me a car that was what I wanted. They couldn't find one for me for months, so on 4/16/17 I contacted my dealer and special ordered a 2018 Grand Sport. I took possession of it on 6/22/17. It is pretty but it is how the Grand Sport's come from Chevy.

Thanks for the kind words.

Cool story and glad you got what you wanted...sorry thought it was a Z06 not a GS but it don't take anything away from the looks...it was truly worth the wait for sure CAD....

I like painted and chrome wheels. The car that I found a deal on had chrome rims, so chrome it was.

Setting aside all the usual stereotyping, you have to go with what looks best and that would be chrome.

Might I suggest a compromise and go w/ a machined face wheel.

Are the chrome wheels on a Z06 the same as on a GS?

GM wheels are not the same as stock wheels?

I'm a little confused with your suggestion.
