Default need help deciding

Ok so for those who don't know I live in NV and my car is going to be delivered to me in NJ(Kerbeck). I want the expert opinions of fellow vette owners to chime in.

Ok so heres the deal I am stuck on choosing to either shipping her back out or driving It back.

Shipping it out will allow me to can come with headaches as I dealt with the last time I attempted to ship a car (the worst experience ever) I ended up having my dad and his friend drive it to me because the truck driver just never showed up when he was supposed to. AKA dealing with brokers blows. But that was a bad experience and may not happen again.

-pros to shipping
- no miles
- wont have to drive across the country

- cons to shipping
- dealing with the potential migraines
- parting with my new baby for more time

Driving it out is the other option, but if I drive it out that's 2200 miles in 1.5 days as I don't intend to stop but there could also be weather which would suck. I wont be alone so I will have my uncle with me and take turns. I may hold the record for vettes on their first 2 weeks of life for most miles put on.

So as you can see I have my 2 options and both come with potential cons but pros as well. I don't intend on this to be the DD so I will still probably drive it under 7000 for the year even with the 2200 or so put on.

pros to driving
-cheaper eco mode 30 mpg probably more equals 3 fills.
-actually get to drive it

cons-to driving
-excessive miles in under a month
-weather could hit

Sorry guys and gals if this is drawn out and boring. I just wanted to inform on where Im at and your opinions can sway me to the right way.

Thanks in advance

Drive from NJ to NV during the winter?

No way in Hell would I do that, especially in a Vette

I may be in the same boat if I decide to pull the trigger in February: living in Phoenix there are NO Vettes around --even on the show room floor! I suppose it's the beautiful blue skies and 66 degree weather that's keeping them out of inventory. Visited family in DC over Thanksgiving and one backwoods Chevy place had FOUR Corvettes out there, including a Premiere!

That said, I see that Rick Conti guy offering $2500 off MSRP, so it looks like availability AND deals are reserved for those too cold in the east coast to make the purchase!

MapQuest the miles, days it will take you if you drive 10hrs a day, the estimated fuel cost, plus the cost of 4 nites hotel/motel accommodations, plus airfare to fly from Nv. to New Jersey, and, you will come out at about $1,800.00 to drive..not to mention the wear & tear on yourself & your new vehicle..in the winter!

You can ship your new car from Kerbeck in Atlanta City, NJ. to your front door, via covered transport for $2,000 to $2,100.

My new C7 was picked up via covered transport from Kerbeck on 12/12/13, and, was delivered to my home on 12/20/13, for $2,000.

In my humble opinion, your decision is a no brainer.

This time of year, shipping enclosed is how I would go.

Your past experience with shipping was bad and is possible again. You have to use a reputable company, not the cheapest, but you could still have scheduling issues. Most of them give a pick-up/delivery window of +/- a week, at both ends. As long as you understand that up front and get their best estimate up front, it shouldn't be too bad.

Ask Dave at Kerbeck who he uses for shipping. They might have a better relationship and scheduling. Intercity is a vendor here and offers a Forum discount. Mike at Criswell uses Plycar and they seem to give good service, could call or email Mike and ask him too.

Good luck.

Shipping for you seems like the way to go since in your original post you listed "wont have to drive across the country" as a "pro" for having it shipped.

For me however the drive back would be the best part. I would route myself South and drive across through the Southern US. Yeah; its probably 500 miles longer but there is little chance of really bad weather and man would that be fun.

He can always go on the 2014 NCC (as we will be and coming back via Route 66).

It's a MUCH better time of year for a cross country trip

BINGO! I would ship that puppy home! As stated, ask Kerbeck who they recommend for transport. They will have a good shipping company that they work with.

I have had 3 vettes shipped to Arkansas from that area and I used Sunday Transport (ask for Charlene). They were a forum recommendation for me and they have been incredible!

I'd ship the car.
Even with 2 people driving 2200 miles in a day and a half is rough.

Plus do you really want to put that much mileage on your brand new car in 1.5 days?
Not to mention your bumper might get sand blasted.

I'm also in Vegas... I'm interested to see what route you go as I might be looking to pick up a Stingray in a few months.

Were there no local dealers or ones in closers states willing to match the price you got at Kerbeck?

Good Luck and keep us posted!

I missed the 1.5 days in the original post - I'm with you; ship it.

Kerbeck should know a good area shipper. Let them set it up, I'm sure they will be happy to. When the car shows up at your door do an inspection, make sure there is no damage. This is the only time you can claim any damage without jumping though hoops. Question; why did you purchase a car so far from home?

Is a courtesy delivery not an option?

You or your uncle will probably start nodding out while driving. Sleep deprived driving is like driving drunk while texting. Do yourself and you uncle a favor and get it shipped in.

That's my risk assesment result.

Courtesy delivery or enclosed trailer shipping are the only two options I would consider.

I bought my car in Colorado and had a courtesy delivery to a dealer in Tucson. $300.00 and everything was perfect.

Cost would be about the same and you'd get your car with no miles on it.

Considering what you might encounter along the way, adding so much mileage up front on the car and the time and effort, I would say Ship It. If it was a one or two day easy drive, it would be different.

Just my $.02, and I'm waiting on a Transporter as we speak. Due to some paperwork glitches at the Dealer, they wouldn't let him pickup the Car last week for the 2,000 Mile ride home to my Garage. Now my Christmas Eve Delivery might end up being a Post New Years Day delivery.

Drive it home yourself. Great excuse for a road trip in a great car. The money you save on shipping it will pay for the trip (and also some pro detailing when you get it home).

There are lots of great cities, natural beauties, and fun stretches between NJ and NV. The drive will be one you'll never forget. If you can afford the time, I'd take the leisurely scenic route home.

Just bring good music (or XM if you have it) for the not so interesting parts. Or a few good audiobooks.

Whatever option you choose, grats on your new Stingray!
