Best $2.49 interior mod ever (IMHO)

I got the Sharpie fabic pens today in blue and gonna try it on the black interior to go with my Laguna Blue paint. Kinda nervous but did a small test area and going to post some pics here as soon as I get a few minutes. Hard to tell from the area I did but it definitely shows up well and is not washed out against the black leather at all. Gonna do it over a few days since it looks like it will take several hours baced on the few threads I did. Gonna do the seats first since i could replace the skins much easier and cheaper than the dash and door panels. Wish me luck!

Don't know how to post the pics...
Hello!
lukecarder shared an album with you.
View Album, [IMG]http://s272.photobucket.com/user/lukecarder/library/Mobile%20Uploads[IMG] I got 4 Sharpie fabric pens for $10 and change and didn't even use a whole pen. It was time consuming (about 3 hours and still have the passenger seat left) but I committed to being the guinea pig with the blue and I did it. Couldn't be happier! Was classy when it was white but looks very sporty now. Apologies for the quality of the pics but it was in the garage and will show up much better with natural light. Have a few "in process" pics so you can see what it looked like as I did it. It was extremely easy. The excess dye rubs right off every surface with just a couple of swipes. Use a flashlight so you see the shiny excess and can confirm it is all wiped off. There are a few spots that were a bit of a booger to get to but nothing major. Don't forget the little seam in front of the passenger door handle! The dash was a booger too but took about 5 or 10 minutes max. I would suggest one cool idea for the seats...do the inside or outside seam and leave the other and see how it looks. I had already done part of both seams before I realized it looked cool with one seam white. Maybe even half blue and half red would look good. So hear is your blue and will see if I can get better pics in the daylight tomorrow.

It was dry on the thread almost instantly. My hands were moist from sweating in my humid garage and rain outside and unseasonably warm temps and after I rubbed off the excess with a rag I could almost instantly rub my finger on the dyed thread and not get any on my finger. Don't think it will be an issue. I would guess it is designed for that since it is designed to be washed and dried on laundry.

As I have been personalizing my C7, I've simply posted most of my mods in my mod thread. But for the money and resulting impact, I felt this one was worthy of a thread of its own.
I wanted my interior stitching to match the car, so I bought a "Stained by Sharpie" Fabric Marker and went to work on the stitching. Of course, I used yellow, but there are a variety of colors available: http://www.sharpie.com/enus/pages/st...y-sharpie.aspx
It took about two hours to transform the stitching. The process involved staining a 4-6 inch section then wiping the excess off the leather with a dry rag. There were no issues at all and it really looks great (the pics really don't do it justice).
Here are the pics (the first pic is of the passenger seat BEFORE being stained).

??? stupid question - how do you wipe off the excess from the seat without also hitting the stitching. This seems really REALLY tedious...
Looks amazing! That is the best mod I've seen in a long time

Nope. Not an issue at all. The dye is in the the stitch almost instantly and just wipe excess with a rag. I used one pen and one rag for the whole job.

For those who have already gone over their stitching: any issues with discoloration or fading on the thread on the steering wheel or shifter? I'd love to do this to my interior in red when I get my C7 this month. I'm thinking that I may leave the wheel and shifter (I got a stick, too) stitching white, since those are heavily used and I don't want dirty-looking thread. That might look weird though.
...the more I'm typing this out, the more I'm realizing that white thread is more likely to get gross than red thread....

I did red stitching on black and i had to do my shifter one additional time. So far with 4200 miles, it has not faded yet. However, even if it fades, it will literally take about the same time to re do it as a car wash so no big deal. I would say I'm extremely satisfied with this mod and highly recommend it. Dont be afraid to do it. It's easy.
