I think you look like a dork standing there just looking at your car pushing a button.

"Look everyone! I'm putting my top down!"
Reason #
1. If it is hot outside you can cool the inside of the car via opening the top.
2. It is easier to get in the car with the top down.(more headroom)
3. Things have come a long way since the Wright Brothers.

Why would you feel the need to have to raise the windows? I mean I'm assuming that the reason the top was down is because it's a nice, warm day. And if so leaving the windows open is a good way to not come back to a hot car. The vette has a motion detector that will sound the alarm as secure the car if it detects somebody putting their hands in.

You need not just stand there. It's my understanding (I have a coupe) that with the vert you can hit the button when you are pretty far away from the car. Picture coming out of a house and heading to your car - hit and (unfortunately) hold the button and the top will go down by the time you get to the door.

Ain't nobody looking at you being impressed by you pushing a button to take down the top - lots of cars do this already.

If you go after market and get the Smart Top, you can put the top down with one button push for 4 seconds. You can put the top up with one button push for 4 seconds. You can put the windows down or up using the FOB The top is controlled by the FOB or the dash button.

I can put the top up, the windows up with the FOB from 50' with one button push for 4 seconds.

It's the same reason why you have to press and hold the button down on the dash to get the top to open. They want you paying attention and if you even for a split second take your finger off the button, it stops.
Please explain to me how it's really any more "safe" to be inside the car while the top is going up?

Similarly why require holding the button?!? Sounds like an argument for power windows to require having the button held to go fully down (and up). Then some genius invented the button that could be pushed to have the window go down with just one push about 10 - 15 years ago.

Years later we finally have it so that window up is now a one push operation just like window down had been for years! If we only could institute this with the seat 1 and seat 2 buttons but no doubt somebody will claim that's for safety reasons and offer no real evidence of the claim.

Like the current window up/down buttons the behavior is that if you hit the window up button it will go all the way up on it's own. If you want to stop it before that tap either the window up or window down button. Same could be implemented for the seat 1 and seat 2 buttons. And the same behavior could be implemented for the top up/down button.

This is not a hard problem to solve and it's really not a safety issue, humans can deal with slow moving things given controls (e.g. the power windows in a vette).

When I'm out of the car already I put the top up with acc. on, then reach in and shut everything down with the start button. Beats getting in and you can put top up with drivers door open as well. The top sounds worse when your outside of the car when top slams down to lock.
