I charged the battery and after several hours it started. Will continue to charge till fully charged.Still don't understand why the dash lights would not turn off with dead battery! It and the possible fob problems were just red herrings as one guy stated. Thanks for all the ideas
GReat news! I am so happy for you. We all learned something from this.
When I do anything that requires more than 5 minutes with the electronics, I simply start the car and let it idle while I putter with the buttons. These cars are voracious for juice and they eat batteries like M&Ms.
Its auto and the only thing i can come up with is there wasn't enough juice to power a relay to shut off dash lights?I will ask dealer's service dept about it.
It kinda shows us how we deal with problem solving when there is automation involved. We would have solved this issue immediately had this been a mid year Corvette because all symptoms would be apparent. But the automation hides symptoms and leaves us grasping at straws!!!....and the solution ended up being the most common and simplest of them all yet we overthink it because the common symptoms are absent.
Glad you got it started. Now put that battery tender to good use!!!

I think you may have it backwards...or I am misunderstanding you. It is not a relay to shut off dash lights. There was not enough power to close a relay to engage the starter...leaving your dash lights lit but no starter engagement. There is probably a computer somewhere that needs x amount of amps to "allow" you to start the car. You may have been below that level so it basically locked the start circuit out until you had the proper amount of voltage/amperage.

If it's like the C5/C6, the starter interlock is controlled by the BCM (Body Control Module)
Have idea, happened to my boss in her 2012 Vette, are you parked on an incline, either foward or backward? if so the slightest incline will bind trany linkage and wont start. Safty feature for most chevys. Lift car in rear where both tires are off ground try to spin tire back and forth you'll her a knock or pop sound that is trany unbinding. If not there is a safty release in console for trany that will allow it to shift if nswitch is bad. There is also the possibility that when you set the time you activated security system in BCM, on that issue there is a sequence you must do to reset it. Most involve unlocking from pas side removing BCM fuse then going into drivers side and flip key to run then to access past off position you'll hear a double chime letting you know BCM is resetting . If yours has keyless entry after this tep hold unlock and lock button down at same tim till you hear tripple chime, that is telling you it accepts the keyless reader. Chevy secret.

Was it hard to get at the battery? I am glad you got your car started. Putting your car on a battery tender may help. I have been using one for years.
So glad you're up and running again! As others have suggested, get the CTEK battery tender. Plug it in when your Vette's not in use and enjoy complete peace of mind. I had a C5 coupe that never needed a tender in during the 9+ years I owned it. But my '13 GS ragtop does -- it's just a fact of life. There really is a reason that GM offered the 'battery protection' option on the C6 and C7. Best wishes!
If the car is in the "Acc mode" all the dash lights will be on but the the car will not start. I found that out by accident.
I thought maybe you held down the start switch for 10 seconds w/o applying the brake to put it in that mode to have the power to make the changes.
Say saying.
