I have the Escort "Max" my favorite. I also own a Escort "Redline" which I hate. I hate it because of all the "false signals" all day long- it drives me crazy constantly listening to it go off because its picking up road construction or an alarm at some commercial building. Definitely would not go with the Redline. The Max is their top of the line. I know some guys like the Valentine but I found that is also gave off lots of false signals.

I'll save you some time.
49% say the Valentine 1.
49% say the Escort branded models.
1% say "other"
1% say "Don't speed and you don't need one, dummy!"
Then the thread devolves into a mine is better than yours, nuh-uh... mine is pissing match. Then the thread is closed.
The end.

I'm of the 1% "other" category. Any of the above (Escort, Valentine etc) radar detectors are great. For me, I want a solution that is 100% concealed without small interfaces to me mounted and one that alerts to to front and rear radar sources. The K40 was the best solution for my needs. I run a K40 360i concealed radar detector with front and rear laser diffusers on my C7. I've run K40 concealed detectors for over 15 years now and never once had a radar ticket since owning them. As such, I have only good things to say about them. They have never failed me and my 360i in my C7 has already saved me several times including at least two separate laser hits recently in which I was going fast enough to get a ticket. It gives me upwards of 1/2 mile warning (or more depending on the road) to a typical radar trap.
That said, if I wanted a portable radar, I would not hesitate to get an Escort or V1. I'd probably lean towards the V1 simply because of it's separate front and rear capability which can come in handy if a LEO is coming from behind.

If you want a radar detector, but can't "afford" the best one...then you shouldn't be driving a $50k+ sports car.

Just to offer ideas.
My setup is as follows.
1. Radar Detector. I use remote mounted unit.
2. Waze Traffic App. It's free and a lot of people use it. You see police and traffic tagged as I can't always rely on Radar.
3. Navigation. Optional since I use Waze 100% of the time.
4. Dashcam. Just in case you need it.

All should get the real tool to use on the roads and highways! Escort live! Way ahead of a
"just a radar detector"
"just a radar detector"

Escort relies on fellow "Live" users providing the information to share. You have to pay to be in their network. 99% of people on the road are not in Escorts Live network. Waze is a free crowd sourcing traffic application. For me 10% of my driving is watching out for police but the other 90% is driving in traffic. This is why I use the free app Waze.

Used a Valentine for over a decade until recently the V1 began going off on the these newer aces with collision avoidance on K band. Valentine is addressing it & has plans for some additional products & updates to the v1 that will put it back at the top... I hope.
I needed something now & something discreet so I went with the 9500ci & put the screen in the mirror. It's seemless discreet & just as good as the v1 but with Lidar shifting & better logic for false signals, very rarely does it go off with a LEO close by...

This is pretty much it. Of course, there is the deep controversy of whether to tap the fuse in the rear or pop open the console and tap the lighter wire. This will go on for a while too as you will soon discover that the stupid mirror on the C7 does not have 12v dc in it any more.
Of course NO ONE has a subtle mount for the Radar Detectors currently because of the 12v mirror thing. Suction cups to the windshield, Velcro on the top of the dash, Twine and wire ties to the mirror shank, 3 zillion dollars for the K40....
Then the Laser jammer guys will do a drive by and tell you that you need a 4 sensor laser thingie for $1500 to handle the lasers that you will get tagged by as your RD can only let you know that your speed has been recorded and you will be dealt with by the trooper hauling *** to catch you.
Threads can be so predictable.........
I like and own, for MANY years, the V1.

Price varies from dealer to dealer and depending on how many laser diffusers you intall. I've got two up front and one in the rear. Plan on spending upwards of 2K with the install. It's not for someone who is thrifty when it comes to those kinds of devices. That is for sure. But at the same time, it's controlled by a wireless remote so there are no control boxes to mount within reach and uses LED's for the front and rear that can be flush mounted into the gauge cluster surround which is where mine went. It has built in GPS to mark out areas of false alarms and has a number of different settings to insure you don't get false alarms much at all. It also has voice alerts which are nice to have in my opinion.
I also considered the Escort 9500ci like wormwoods which is also a GREAT detector. The deciding factor for me was having to mount the control interface with the Escort as well as it's lack of a rear sensor. I've become accustomed to knowing if the radar hit is coming from in front of me or behind me as I've K40's with that feature in my last several cars. The K40 is the only concealed detector that offers that feature so it made the decision a bit easier.
When it comes time to sell my car and get the Z06, I will remove the K40 and transfer it to the next one just like I did with my previous K40 Calibre. As such I see this device as more of an investment in avoiding tickets and not having to worry about somebody smashing my window to steal it. In the end, they save me money over the long term.

V1, Max, Redline, 9500ix are all good. Have owned them all. Got rid of 9500ix when Max came out. Got the Max, great detector, better than 9500ix, quiet, has redlight camera gps etc. Got rid of it and got the Redline instead because I wanted maximum Range and I don't mind false alarms. Out of the box the Redline is awesome and yes it falses more than the Max. However, if you band segment it and turn segment 1 off it will get rid of the false alarms on Ka caused by 'leaky' detectors like the Cobra and other bargain price radar detectors. If you segment it to address the current guns in use in the US (seg 2,5, and 8) it will almost double its range. The Max can't be segmented (Yet).
Also Redline cannot be detected by radar detector detectors (in Virginia, and DC), the Max and the V1 can be detected. Redline can also be used with Escort Live.
Have owned a V1(Radar detector and Locator) for many years. Super detector, also falses more. It has arrows (very accurate) which shows the location of the radar which comes in handy. The new V1's can also be segmented (custom sweeps). This will quiet it down and greatly extend its range. The V1 can also be used with the YaV1 app (android phone) to lock out false alerts and make using its features alot easier.
If you want maximum range nothing will beat and most will not even come close to a segmented Redline or a Custom sweeped V1. You cant go wrong with either.
Also, the V1 is best at detecting Laser (which basically tells you to pull over so the LEO does not have to chase you). But you could pick up Laser scatter from the guy in front and may have a second or two to react. The Max and the Redline do not always 'see' the laser, at least mine didn't/doesnt respectively.
I have both the Redline and the V1 and if I am driving thru Virginia then the Redline is a clear choice. Otherwise either one will do.
Lastly, the word is that Valentine will be coming out with a new detector by the fall (based on patents filed).
Well hopefully this helps.

Well, considering the number of people who think they can get away with 87 octane, because it's cheaper, or the folks who will be buying cheap tires for their Z51. In a year because the top of the line Michelins are too expensive, I figured the remark would find an audience.
