I have had mine on order since July. Several phone calls and emails and I get the same promises over and over. What really pisses me off is people on this forum have ordered there after me and have gotten there's already.January 1 then I'm done with this fiasco. What a joke it has been

Those considering blacking out tail lights, be careful. If you get rear ended and the police show up, they will most likely note the tinted tails which is technically not legal for road use. They may also issue a ticket.

I know someone this happened to and his insurance company refused to pay the claim saying that he altered the car in a way that made it illegal for use on public roads. I know he is fighting it but it is something to consider.

I had tinted tails on my former CTS-V but I was willing to take the risk. Those tails were still plenty bright even after 35% tint.

I just picked up a black on black Z51 7 speed and am swaping all badging to the black crabon emblems. The wheels are machine faced so they will stay as the only remaining chrome/polish. I'm blacking out the chrome strip across the front grille with plastidip.

This fear of the cops and insurance company is an urban myth unless you're one of those stupid kids with a slammed Honda that takes charcoal grill matte black and sprays the lights from the outside so that they are basically invisible ....

If you take off the rear fascia, spray lightly with VH1 Nightshade (and in my case, left the center lens clear, altho that was not really necessary)...the amount of light that comes through is not diminished in any way either with parking, regular lights on, or brake lights...in fact, it looks factory oem....

If you're really that paranoid about the insurance company, just take a video of the car in dim light with lights off, brakes on, lights on and you will have proof positive that the reason you were rear ended was because the a..hole behind you was not paying attention, not because of your cool stealth tail lights...

As a police officer myself I would not cite for that if the lights operate and were visible. You still have to stop within the assured clear distance ahead. Im not saying it never happens because I do not know all instances, but I do know in 14 years I have never seen an officer cite for that. You rear end someone, you get the ticket absent extraordinary circumstances.

I think it is your car and your choices..my concern is a law suit after hitting from the rear and getting cited. My bet is a jury would not like the idea of darkened tail lights. The car that hit you in the rear has a case...just a crevat.

Lucky for you...damned if I'd buy covers that stick on with VHB tape...virtually impossible to remove. Ideal trap for dirt/moisture.
Glen e cracked one...likely tryin' to pry it off cause he forgot to apply Opti-Coat.

Exactly right!!!! The law in every State that I am aware of says that cars following another have to maintain an "assured clear distance" to stop...if you don't you are absolutely at fault...while the officer is right that the may be "extraordinary circumstances" to get you out of this, I can't imagine what they would be....either you're not following too close, texting your girfriend or looking at the cutie in short skirt, or not..if not, its all on you...

Well, my friend, if you get hit from the rear with sufficient force that the police are called to the scene, I would bet that there is nothing left of your tail lights but shards of plastic on the ground...also, you are the one who is injured, if you are, not the donkey who rear ended you....
do you really think the police responding are going to run a light meter on your pieces of tail light to see if it was too dark? And do you really think the moron who rear ended you is going to tell the cop that he couldn't see you were stopped because you had some tint on your tail lights? So, I think you should rethink your "crevat" and buy some VH1 Nightshade ....

Also just ordered their side and back reflector blackout kit....

I don't have a problem with the 3d brake light in the spoiler...it is mostly blacked out.....

The only color that is going to be left on the car is the red tail/brake lights...

However, the 4 red light lens covers will annoy me....

Yes, I have seen replacement lenses that are dark, but problem is
(aside from possible police excuse to pull over) is that some dim-bulb
who rear ends you at a stop light will claim he couldn't see your brake lights! With what I've seen so far, that would be an excuse that might work...

Has anyone found a way to black out the rear lenses in the daytime, but, let them be bright at night, or when you apply brakes during daylight (like the cover on the 3d brakelight in the spoiler)?
My smoked rear (lights and lower reflectors) and side markers were done here in AZ by a local paint shop. Did not do centers or 3rd brake light (matter of personal preference) They used a 3M Paint product and clear coated. Looks great during the day and just as bright at night. I didn't go too dark on the tint but, as you can see they look black during the day. Also, let me know how the Gorilla lugs come out - I was eyeballing those yesterday. (I already had the stingray caps)... Thanks (p.s., Let me know what you guys think)

Looks great!!! That's exactly how I want it done. Great idea not to paint center.

I'll tell you what I think.. It looks like an Army vehicle. Having said that in reply to your asking, I think whatever a person does to their cars it's their money. They earned it and can do whatever they like. I strongly support freedom to mod.

Here's the finished version. Blacked out grille with Carbon Fiber, CF Black Wings, tint. You can see the Black Gorillas in the side view.

Thanks. Glen e's post is spot on...you can also just Google "black gorilla lug nuts" and find dozens of suppliers. Some free advice: Once you get your 20 set, send in the card and check to Gorilla and get an extra copy of he wheel lock key and stash it somewhere safe outside the car. I like to keep the original one in the storage well at rear of hatch on drivers side.
