You must have some relatives that live in my sub-division. We have a monster Escalade that can rattle stuff in my house when he drives by. That can't be "high end" audio - right?

Yeah I'm a little surprised they didn't recommend a deep cycle AGM battery under hood for that amp actually. They probably just kept both of the gains down for you to avoid overtaxing your stock electrical system.
Nice setup.

Where are you going to store the roof when you want to remove it? I'm sure music is your thing and that it sounds great but ......

It's as if the radio sound is more important than the purpose of the great car you bought. I'm confused as to your objective

Ha...only a true stereo fanatic understands this madness....i enjoy driving down a highway at 80mph with the windows down and the stereo is so loud I can't hear the road noise

And yes the radio sound is much more important that the performance....could care less about the horsepower....

I have owned everything from a vette to an escalade and hummer....each of them the primary objective was to have a concert in my car every day....

The way you feel about the engine in a toyota is the way I feel about the crap system that is a Bose....it's an absolute joke....the fact that some people think it's sounds good makes me giggle...

Each to his own....

I'm installing a new system with 2 12 or 15 inch Alpine subs in the next week or two. Do you think I'll need to swap out the front Bose speakers with Alpine speakers and tweeters or will I be able to leave the stock Bose speakers in there?

Also, how well does it work with the stock head unit? Can you easily adjust the bass and tune it? Thanks in advance.

You don't care about performance but you bought a Corvette
Why not save a whole lot of dough and buy a Hyundai or something?

"Blasting bass" is hardly high end audio. It sounds ridiculous and it's highly inconsiderate to the rest of the public who are forced to listen to your taste in music.

This kind of mod definitely falls into the category of "more money than brains" category. Maybe some 22's next?

OK, rant over. Just kills me to see cars the caliber of the new Corvette get trashed like this.

Like he already said, to each his own. Not everyone buys a Corvette for the same reason. Some people care more about how it looks or how it sounds rather than simply how fast it goes. Why does it matter to you if we care more about audio than performance?

No offence, but I can tell that you're very far from being an audio expert. In order to have a great sounding audio system, you need to be able to have deep bass as well as crisp sounding speakers.

So now you're calling him stupid just because he wanted a better audio system?

Glad to hear that adding better speakers to a Corvette is "trashing" it. I will make sure to comment that your Corvette is trashed next time you add a mod. OK, rant over

Sorry my opinion upset you. Didn't mean to do that.

I just feel that throwing huge bass pounding speakers into a world class sports car is sacrilegious, and yeah, kinda dumb. Just having the ability to be LOUD is not the same as having quality. Maybe the OP is late teens in which case I understand it a bit better, but if all he wants is a mobile boombox and doesn't care about performance, maybe use something less desirable, like a Scion or a Hyundai??? Why waste a Vette?

But it's just an opinion, albeit a strongly held one. Didn't mean to touch a nerve.

Don't worry, you didn't touch a nerve by any means. I'm just sticking up for a fellow audio and Corvette enthusiast. Post #29 should answer all of your questions. And again, to each his own.

Sure it is a clean install, but flawed. I know the OP indicated he leaves the top in the garage when it's off. In my opinion, that's a simple excuse for a flawed design. In his particular case it may work for him. But for a shop, they should have taken that issue into consideration. I am sure it is doable; as a customer, I wouldn't accept it.

Should provide enough clean power, but once I have it in and everything tuned right we are going to make the decision if I need additional power or not.
Can you please post an update when you get it all done? I'd love to see/hear how it all turned out.

I'd really like to, at some point, get aftermarket sub/speaker/amp but keep the head unit and hopefully be able to use the same amount of space in the trunk if possible, or only a slight bit more. I am a huge music guy and appreciate a great system in a car, and despite some less-enlightened assumptions do not "blast it so people can hear my taste in music", most people who do this and spend significant money do it for the sound quality, especially with a convertible top down on a freeway. You need power for it to be both loud and clear at high speeds.

Wow man....really

So I am 41... Married for 17 years...have a 16 year old daughter....worked for the same company for almost 18 years

I like quality sound....in order to achieve what I like it requires improved speakers and amps...also 10 inch woofers are much different that 12s or 15s...I don't blast bass to impress....in fact I listen to lots of country, classical and rock music...I just like quality sound.....and I usually have my windows rolled up!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless I am on the highway and the weather is nice which is rare cause I live in Texas...on that occasion I will roll down the windows and crank it up

And just to be clear....I love the look of a corvette. That's why I have owed 4 of them over the last 20 years.

I just don't get all caught up about the horsepower.....my obsession is music....

It's no different that the guy that buys a supercharger or fancy exhaust....they want to enhance the performance of the car.......I just want to enhance the sound system and I am good with the performance of the engine......each to his own.

I love the look and design of a vette with quality sound....

Everyone in the world is different buddy...people like different things....maybe you should not take shots at people and just accept that some people are different that you...

Oh and to add to my weirdness that I am sure you will criticize....I am a huge Star Wars fan.....got a whole room full of collectible stuff....

Here is my office.....I only show you this picture to demonstrate how different people can be....would you ever have imagined a guy that collects Star Wars stuff in his 40s drives a corvette and puts in a crazy stereo???......

Well here I am....

And no I am not a complete nerd....

Oh...one more thing...when people come to my house...including my wife's friends or my daughters teenage friends....they love to check out the Star Wars collection and the new vette...I always laugh at how many "normal"people get so excited about seeing my stuff....oh and they always want me to turn on the stereo...in fact most of the time they ask to hear the stereo before they ask to hear the engine....

Crazy...I guess those people are dumb just like me
