Another screwed thread!
Since I'll be taking delivery of my new Stingray soon the more info I have the better.
Thanks in advance.
As to the dealer, I would never even think about using a dealer for a tire. Tire stores do tires all day long. Dealers don't.
I love my dealer and never fear any warranty work or general maintenance but I've learned over the years that repairing tires is not their strong suit nor prime business. I always take any tire issue to a dedicated tire retailer in the area I have done business with.

Note: Not all run flats can be repaired, the Michelin's can, ONCE.
I swear this dealer is run by lawyers as they had my car delivered to my home 40 miles away on a flatbed hauler because they would not let me drive it off the lot when I bought it because the outside temps were in the low 30's which was too cold for the tires.

Everyone else. Guys. Fine I get it. Discount tire is the best place for tires. This is my first nice car. Also first car that I get a nail in. The lady in the first dealership said I don't have time. Go to tires plus or discount tire. I swung by tires plus and they said nay. Tire and wheel too big for their equipment. They directed me to a racing shop. Went there and they said they do have equipment but I'll need to bring them a replacement tire since they don't sell those. I didn't know discount tire would be that much better than tires plus or else I would have gone there. On star said get to the dealership ASAP and I went to the other smaller one. I'm just happy they were willing to help me. It's just one tire. And you know what, if they damage the wheel they damage the wheel. It's a very nice car but it's a car. Not my sister.
Now if this happens again I know I will go to discount tire.
Love it up there.... June - September that is.

Here's my tire saga..

I'm buying snow tires for my 4x4. I remember reading your story in June. That's why I ended up seeking out the tire insurance before the finance manager even offered it!!
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
On a 3000 mile road trip and somewhere in Mississippi I get the low tire pressure warning and look at the display and it's down to 17lbs. Yikes.
I'm in the middle of nowhere MS. and get off at first exit on I20 I come to. There is this old time gas station there (you know, the ones that do repairs and the grease is about 50 years old on the walls) and out come Clyde. Complete with fantastic Mississippi accent he admires the car and I tell him my woes. Says there is a Chevy dealer next exit but can I look at that there tire? Finds a screw (he could hear is hissing) and says he will plug it and guarantees I will never have an issues again.
So, why not? Plugs the tire and off I go. 1000 miles later, that tire is holding the exact pressure from that day (Clyde did check all the tire pressures) and I cannot even find the hole anymore!!
Here's to Clyde!
They have been doing my tire work on all my vettes and other vehicles here in Tucson since the mid 80's and they always come though. I had one vette that had low miles on the Michelin tires that they had installed and got a nasty cut in one that could not be repaired. The matching tire was no longer available so the manager got the Michelin rep on the phone and he stepped up and replaced all 4 tires with the new model tires and I only paid for the cost of the one tire that was not reparable.

I'll look for that Red Vette the next time we're up there!!

Michael
Today I'm off. Got up and straight drove (in the honda) to the local dealership. I had checked in the past and they do sell and service corvettes. Went to service dept. no customers there. Couple of people on the phone. I waited till this lady looked up and saw me.
Chevy lady: Can I help you?
Me: yes. I have a flat right rear tire on my 14 stingray z51. I'm hoping you can help me.
Chevy lady: do you think you need a new tire or just a patch job?
Me: those are performance run flats. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to patch them.
Chevy lady: no. Depending on the location you can patch them.
Me: ok. If you say so. It's in the second most external groove.
Chevy lady: well I won't be able to sit here and guess for you. I need to see. Why don't you drive it in.
Me: actually I left it at home. I can go bring it over.
Chevy lady: actually sir, we're too busy. Why don't you take it to tires plus or discount tire. They'll be able to help you.
Me: tires plus?? For real?
Chevy lady: ya. They'll help you better. If the need to order you a new tire tell them to call us and well order one and send it to them. Might take a few days!!
Right there all I can think of is wow! It is coz I didn't buy from them? Is it because it's a chevy?
I had purchased tire insurance from criswell with the car. I called them and filed the claim. Called criswell and Mike couldn't believe the treatment I got. Confirmed the tire shouldn't be repaired. Called onstar and they said I can drive it on a flat for 50 miles.
I'm new in town. Googled it and found a small dealership across the lake in Wisconsin. Called and confirmed they service chevy. Drove the vette there. Small dealership with a 3 car showroom. The main service guy was very courteous. Checked me in. Called the Michelin supplier in minneapolis and they're out of stock. The service manager ended up calling my tire insurance and they said they can get one shipped over. I was happy with the way they were trying to help me. The service manager said he'd keep my car indoors and the keys locked in his desk. I ended up ordering the carbon dash since my car is gonna sit there for a few days. One of the techs dropped me off home. I said thanks. He said it's my job!
Hope it all works out well. Two dealerships within 30 minutes of each other. Two different experiences.
Lesson of the day: get the flippin tire insurance. $500 paid for itself within 4 wks. Oh and if you have a crappy experience go to the next dealer and see.
A screw went thru my tire Friday night (right rear). The run flats were great. Dropped car off at the dealer Sunday night. They are going to replace the tire (no patch) and I have the insurance too -- great investment probably will not be the last time. Had the oil changed while it was there. Should have it back wed or thurs.

Paid $1000 for 3 years of protection.. but it's more than wheels, tires.. covers dings, key fobs, etc..............
. Easily plug them myself. You can get your own plug kit from parts stores for only a few bucks... I never had any problems with plugs. Even had some patches. No problems at all (until I picked up another screw)
. At one point I had 3 tires with plugs in them at the same time.
... And another time I had one tire with 2 plugs in the tire.
In some cases if you leave the "screwed" tire, the tire store will plug the tire and sell it to another customer as a discounted used tire... Happens every day.

Oh well. Ran it over to an NTB, and they inspected the rims first, and pointed out where "whoever swapped them last time" scratched the rims -- probably didn't want to get blamed for the dealerships poor work. In any case, they got it done in under an hour. I have no reservations about taking it there in the future for any of my tire needs.
