This has more to do with the temporary hold on the cars due to the airbag / brake line issue. Essentially, the dealers received two months of inventory in one month and now they have to move those cars off the lot. Probably a very good time to buy. Once the inventory goes back to normal, the regular discounts will level off again.
not exactly prime sports car season right now is it....
Yes it is prime sports car season. It is just starting here. I don't drive mine much during the hot summer months. Fall, winter and spring is prime driving season unless you live in the great white north!
The best way to tell how a car is moving (based on the money off factor) across the country is to look at factory incentives on the corporate website rather than one particular dealer's willingness to discount.
2015 MSRPs are $5,000+/- higher than the initial 2014 MSRPs
There are no earth shattering new features in the 2015 that warrant a $5,000 increase in MSRP. So, it is nothing more than a price increase.
Dealers can now discount 2015s $5,000 and make it LOOK LIKE a fantastic deal, when in reality all the buyer is really doing is paying the same price for their 2015 as someone else did for their practically identical 2014 6 - 9 months ago.
Oh, I should mention as well. I went to the bigger dealership in my area, and the sales manager said they don't discount prices off the Corvettes. Salesman ended up telling me they've taken 1k off before and I should be able to get that, so I ordered it from them. The next day I figured it couldn't hurt to shop around, and is when the smaller dealership gave me 4k off. So I canceled my first order and got the car from the 2nd dealership instead. Pays to shop around I guess.

No... the demand has tapered.
The huge initial demand from the 14's created a backlog that has now been filled.
There are 1830 unsold 2014's sitting on lots, and good number of 2015's.
The discounts are here to stay.
The current discount for a 2015 stingray coupe w/z51 is $4500-5000,
More for very and non-z51's.; expect them to get bigger though 2015 and into 2016 before the 2017 refresh, and/or GrandSport.
It's more like GM over-producing the car imo. GM has always had a pretty crappy inventory management for their Halo car! One of the things I wished GM would learn from Porsche is inventory management (and dealer service).
The first year is always nuts when it comes to allocations, Yes demand will decrease as the months go by and the Z06 will also steal the Stingrays thunder as focus shifts to that car later in the year. Once the Z06 hits the street you will see decent discounting on the Stingray by just about everyone.
Not to mention GM will now have more time to pay attention to detail vs building as fast as they can.
There is nothing to support your theory that GM will all of a sudden give the 2015s more attention to detail than the 2014s.
Until proven, then people buying 2015s aren't getting cars that GM paid additional attention to detail to during the manufacturing/quality control process. .. Z06 too.
To add ...or perhaps I am just swayed by the fact I happen to own a 2014 C7 that must have gone through the process with a rigorous attention to detail and quality.

Until it is proven based on facts, then people buying 2015s aren't getting cars that GM paid extra special attention to detail to during the manufacturing/quality control process. ..and that goes for the Z06 too.
But hopefully they corrected different design/production issues that may have needed tweaking plus fixed certain procedures like putting to much oil in the engine.
Just found out that my Z51 was built several weeks ahead of schedule so that may be an indication they are starting to catch up with demand.
I've noticed forum dealers already offering over $5-8K off MSRP for 2015 C7s. Is there a decrease in demand for the C7 as the initial popularity of the car has declined?
The other factor is how much the dealer is willing to give you on your trade in. I have seen as much as $5,000 difference between different dealers with little difference in the price of the new car.

BINGO! We have a Winner. I think many of the cosmetic, and some of the mechanical issues we have seen so far are in large measure due to the fact that BG was ramped up, moving C7s out the door. to satisfy demand. And, of course, make a buck i.e., the price increase.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
