Default Disappointment

Everything sort of went by the book with the ordering of a new C7. It was entered in late September, queued for production in early October and, had a TPW of October 27th. It was built on October 29 and has sat at 4B00 ever since.

I can't seem to get it shipped so that will probably mean a 2nd week of December delivery to San Diego as it has to go to Ohio before it is shipped by covered wagon (truck) to California.

I am really surprised that GM builds them and then lets them sit for so long in BG rather than invoicing them and shipping them ASAP.

Does anyone know how long they typically reside at GM before being shipped? I know that it is only a one day trip from the factory to Columbus but it seems to take forever to get them to ship it.

Could this be caused by ordering of the full length stripes as I understand that the factory does not install those but an outside vendor does that.

Thanks,

Scot

Hate to break the news to you, but CA is shipped by TRAIN, not truck.

Yup..

Goes to Toledo from BG (by truck) where it may sit up to a week before being loaded on a CSX railcar. From there, it may be a few more days before it arrives outside Chicago where it is transferred to Union Pacific. From there it could be several more weeks before it gets to Kalifornia, where it will be unloaded and will sit for anywhere from a few days to as long as a a week waiting for truck transport to your dealer.

Ain't ordering a C7 fun!!!

It can potentially take this long but it can also be much quicker. Mine was about 2 weeks from being built until it arrived in Mira Loma. It was trucked out to the dealership a day or two later. It's pretty painful regardless because no one seems to be able to give an accurate ETA.

Tell your dealer to look at the Event History, it could be closer than you think.

When cars are shipped by rail, they will show the 4B00 status 3 times. First when the car is built and waiting to go to Toledo. When it's on the truck it goes to 4200. When it gets to Toledo it goes back to 4B00 while waiting for the train. Once on the train, its back to 4200. When it gets to the distribution center in SoCal...back to 4B00 until a truck picks it up and takes it to your dealer.

Don't assume it's in BG because of the 4B00. While it could be, my guess is that it may be in Toledo.

Actually, I was not very clear. I think that it is still in BG as it will go by truck to Columbus to the dealer and then by enclosed truck to San Diego. The problem will be that it will arrive in Columbus and due to the holiday, it will not move for a couple of weeks.

So, what you are saying is, you bought it from a dealer that had it incoming to the dealership. It is NOT GM's fault that it will take long(er) to get it to you, correct? You are speaking about a forum dealer taking delivery first, right?

Why would Thanksgiving (or any other Holiday) cause a delay of "a couple of weeks".

I ordered my C7 On Sept 1. Memorial Day. Got a work bench number on Tuesday. Can't remember when it was queued for prod, but my TPW was 10-27. Car was built on 10-24.
As of yesterday it was still at B.G. status 4B00.

Some of the people in the eastern states, that had the same 10-27 TPW are already getting their Vettes this week, because they are being trucked.

Needles to say I'm still waiting to hear, like your if mine has even left B.G. for the rail yard in Ohio.

Later.

Again, I am apparently not too clear. GM finished the car on 10/ 29 and it is still in BG today. Once they finnaly ship it, I am told that it will take only one day to arrive in Columbus, OH at the dealership.

As a result of the delay at the factory, the Thanksgiving Holiday becomes a factor as not to many truckers will leave Columbus right before or right after Thanksgiving for a cross country delivery.

What I am wondering is, typically, how long do the cars sit at the factory in 4B00 before actually being shipped to a dealer. If it were to ship tomorrow, it would arrive in Columbus by Friday and might be able to be shipped to California the week of the 10th. If it ships from BG next week I am thinking that it will not ship to California until after Thanksgiving.

Hope this makes it clearer.

My car sat at BG for a week before getting shipped. Since it sat there for a week I got stuck in the stop sale order for another week.

Your car will get shipped soon. Any day now. Also who is giving you the 4B00 code? If it's anyone other that your dealer, it could be incorrect.

Truckers work all year long, some take holidays, some do not. Find a transport company with a good reputation and your car will be there within a week. Heck if you're really pressed for it, hire a transport company for expedited shipping and pay them $3k and I bet it will be there in days.

Actually, there is no delay. Jack Cooper Transport has 10 days from the time they get the car to ship it. They have to wait till they have a full load of cars heading in the same general direction. I know it's frustrating, but at this point you are still in the norm.

What RONIN said! It is SO worth the wait! I got caught in the stop-sale recall too, which almost delayed my Museum Delivery. I've had my CRT vert for five weeks and am still in complete shock. It is one magnificent vehicle!!!

So you bought your Vette from an out of state dealer and he is shipping it to you or to a courtesy delivery here in CA ?

My car took longer to ship than it did to order and build. It's part of the Corvette experience!

Hi Scot,
You might be interested in reviewing a thread from this past July entitled "How many days from Toledo to Mira Loma". My car took about 6 weeks from the build date to dealer delivery in San Bernardino. I suspect your car will follow the same path my car took; truck to Toledo, train to VDC in Mira Loma, then truck to your dealer. If I remember correctly, my car sat in Toledo for about two weeks before getting on the train. The train ride takes about a week, then another couple of days to get from Mira Loma to your dealer. A painful wait for sure, but well worth waiting for. The car is absolutely incredible.

And in the mean time when the battery doesn't hold a charge for 5 weeks or so, then some yard jockie, that has no idea on the proper procedure for jump starting a C7 will of course use what ever method he has too, to get the Vette off the rail car.
