Seems reasonable, but I won't be doing it. I used the in-car nave ONCE this year because my GF got in and decided to use it from the passenger seat. Most places I go such as client appointments are on my schedule in Google Calendar which links the address to Google Maps automatically if I press the address on the phone.
BTW, if U have Onstar's Directions and Connections all U have to do is send the Directions from your Android or Iphone or Windows app .. and the actual direction will go to the NAV via BING Maps. Up to date already
You have a pay a monthly service fee for onstar navigation.

Not right now I don't. And I was only saying for those who have it, surely not for that singular reason of downloading "Directions," that it is available.
Of course not. But the logistics of creating "special" versions for people is beyond GM's ability. Don't lose site of the fact that there is no reason to create a special version. A map is a map.
They make a "special" one for your car so you can't share it.
Does anyone have experience with the map update also including any nav system software updates? I'm taking my C7 to the dealer to check out the nav system this week to see if there are any updates to the system software itself. The maps can't be too far out of date even if they were loaded several months before my car was built in Nov - Dec 2013 and delivered in Dec 2013.
My C7 nav needs some help with the software, not the map data. It shows different, slower routes than my smartphone Google maps (both with same restrictions on fastest route, toll roads, etc.), and the traffic indication is useless compared to Google maps. The routes it shows me show arrival times that are typically 30-50% slower using different roads than my Google maps. It shows traffic congestion but it's usually very wrong, so it doesn't help my route decisions. When it says conditions have changed and wants to reroute me, I just keep going now because that advice is ALWAYS wrong. Wasted a lot of time following the first couple of reroutes! What triggers that reroute is a mystery.
My Garmin and phone app. have proven to be more accurate then the C7 Nav. but, saving that $3.95 in shipping cost if purchased before Dec. 31st. is very tempting to buy now
THANK YOU for the response. Seems steep. Is this an every year kind of thing........
I'm sure they'll make an update available every year...but roads can only change so much during any 12 month period. I'll likely skip this update and wait another cycle or two.
What bothers me the most about this is it is a 2015 car. They should at least give those owners a freebie. Heck you've probably had the car for less than 60 days. What are they going to do with the ones on the dealers lots right now. I can hear the salesman in the middle of December. That will be $72,385.14 for the car and $160 for the map updates.
I have not got a letter yet. Why are we being asked to update. Our Covettes are new and still in warranty. If it was not updated at the plant because it was not available, it should not cost us money. Can Customer service find out?
Very happy I didn't buy the OEM NAV system. I use WAZE. Free download and free updates. I can see the map on my phone if needed, and directions are through cars sound system with bluetooth.

Unless the initial C7 GPS Nav GPS data was old to start with, it is odd GM would ask for a fee to upgrade the Nav information so soon. My other vehicles equipped with Nav also require a fee to periodically update the Nav data but this typically occurs 3 years after purchase.
It's too bad car manufacturers can't team up with Garmin and create an integrated Garmin navigation system into the mix, as Bose has done with the sound systems.

We get letters every fall from Infiniti for my wife, about upgrading the Nav in her Fx35. I think we got the first one free, but $150 after that, occasionally $99 on sale.
