Default CAI modification?

The inlet path looks restrictive to me with the 90 degree bend. Has
any one gone aftermarket and what are your opinions on a change to either a K&N or an AFE unit?

Or is it good money badly spent?

Thanks.

For what little, if any, HP/torque gain you get for the price it's a waste of $$$.

FWIW, I got +10HP peak and +13HP in the mid with the aFe. More pronounced engine sound as well (I liked it).

aFe CAI only on stock tune:

10 HP gain for the price isn't what I'd consider money well spent.

YMMV.

Don't totally disagree. But for $350, warranty friendly, cleaning up the engine bay, peppier throttle response, and the improved induction sound it was a good deal for me.

Real world 1/4 mile not dyno maybe 1/2 mph and 1/2 tenth. Take your car to the strip and change them out then you have real world. I have done this when I had my C6 LS3. To see a real improvement you need to get a good 60' and doubt a CAI well help you with that.

I am very happy with my AFE intake, especially considering the cost. I spent $1200 to get 5hp + sound/look with the NPP exhaust, might as well spend $350-400 to get a few more The throttle response is improved, the look is improved, and the intake tone is also throatier.

This is of course after we all spent $50k+ to get 455+ hp...if spending money on horsepower isn't your thing, Mitsubishi makes a dirt cheap 3-cyl Mirage

One thing is obvious however...the C7's stock air intake is way better than the C5's or C6's. I added a Vararam to my C5 and then later to my C6 and they did make a substantial difference in performance. I've read most of the posts on the AFE and they are pricy. Plus, I've read where just their air cleaner or a K&N adds power for less than $100.00.
To me that makes more sense until eventually the AFE come down to more reasonable pricing.

I don't know, 35 bucks per HP does not seem that expensive to me.

On my C6 I had headers, Callaway CAI, Polished TB, 160 T-Stat and a tune and that cost me about 3000 and netted me 60 HP. That came to about 50 bucks per HP.

aFe intake flat out works, and it's a great deal considering. My LS3 wasn't worth a intake because it was Z06 style anyways. Drop in air filter was about as good as any intake on that motor. LT1 has some restrictions, and I got 11whp from aFe.

Unless you have one all you are doiing is speculating and there are plenty to choose from. I am a big Haltech fan and spent my money accordingly. The CF goes in the direction I want to visually for the engine bay, the throttle is much more improved and the sound coming out of that hood/firewall worth every penny....my two cents

The improved throttle response alone is worth the price of admission. 10 extra horses at $35/HP is a bargain. Might not be THAT noticeable but it sure is nice to know you have it and can talk about it.

Never realized that the LT1 had such a "funky" dip in the torque curve.

Yeah, I thought it odd too when I first saw my curves. Comparing to some others I found (to my relief) that it was 'normal'.

For example Livernois comparing base tune to their 93 tune (not endorsing, just comparing curve shapes...):
