Technically it doesn't fit if you have to take the magazine out.
It's a great spot to STORE the weapon for when you don't have it on your person. Like when you go into somewhere that specifically states no firearms. Should be on your person at all times when possible.

Don't you guys think if a real emergency came up; would you really have the time to open the cubby whole and get your gun out !
Would you rather drive home to get it? It's not ideal but if you're worried about your gun/sights/holster tearing up your seat it might be a decent alternative.
Like I said I was more worried about when I have to run into the bank or a no gun zone.

What kind of **** is going on there if you always have to carry a gun? No judgement, I'm genuinely curious. Also, what do you do with it when you're walkimg around in shorts and flip flops?

I think it's a bit of a cultural thing for people who have no idea why someone would carry a gun. The short answer as to why I carry a gun everywhere: Because I can't carry a cop. When seconds count the police are only minutes away.
I am an avid 2A supporter but I won't preach to you, just understand that some people have been through things that change them. And some people don't have to cut themselves to know it hurts. Crime happens everywhere, anybody who says "my neighborhood is safe" or "I stay out of sketchy places" is really fooling themselves. Look up Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom for a good example of what kind of world we live in today.
Flip flops don't change anything, and I wear shorts with a belt and carry the same thing I carry in the winter.
It's unfortunate that the passion of gun owners makes them look fanatical to people who weren't brought up around them and just don't get it. For many a gun is a tool, like a fire extinguisher. You hope you never need it, but if you ever do you'll be way better off that you had one.

I respect your opinion, but there are SEVERAL philosophies on CCW. I have been licensed for about 10 years and rarely carry actually on me. I keep my Kahr PM-9 in the storage area and that suits my style.
If a maniac comes sneaking up and points a gun in my ear at a stop light, yeah, he wins. But with kids and co workers in and out of my vehicles, the cubby-hole works great.

You make some valid points. I've just never seen a handgun outside of a gun range or on a cop.
I wonder what the ratio of someone successfully defending themselves with a gun vs accidental shootings with their own gun is. But that's a discussion for another thread. Sorry for the hijack.

A lot of us have legal permits to carry concealed weapons, which has training prerequisites, so someone with a CCW permit shooting themselves is not very likely. Most of us with permits who carry don't advertise it; that's the purpose of doing it concealed.
As others have said it's like insurance, a fire extinguisher, etc. You hope it's never needed, and the odds are it won't be, but it's always better to be prepared and protect yourself and your loved ones instead of relying on others to do it for you.
