Default Paint Problem

I have 3 places that look like frost in bright sunlight. Can't see them unless you have a lot of sun and your at the right angle. It was hard to take these pics in bright sunlight at the right angle when you can't see the phone screen.
Anyone know what causes this? I'm betting it was a repair at the factory. I noticed it the first week I got the car.

If it's underneath the clear, it'll need a respray and a lot of work. Pray that it can clear up with an orbital and some meguires 205.....what's the dealer say?

I don't want to pile on here, but I want to say that I recently purchased a 2015 Tahoe in Tungsten Grey. I have washed and detailed the truck several times now and I must say...the paint job is flawless. There is no orange peel and the finish looks glass-like at all angles and in all areas...so much better and more consistent and uniform than my Vette. It truly looks like it's been hand buffed and polished.

Chevy CAN do a great job at painting. I just don't understand what's going on in Bowling Green. It's befuddling.

I didn't take it to the dealer yet because of the hassle and it's hard to show unless you have the sunlight. At the right angle it shows worse than in the pics.

I'd certainly take it to the dealer and have it looked at or take it to a trusted body shop and see what they say. For the price of the car, the paint should be very good and consistent on all cars.

Must be nice-my quadruple black z51 convertible has the worst orange peel I've ever seen, and my eyes don't normally see such things. I've only had the car 1 week-if it bugs me enough I'm going to have it professionally wet sanded and re-cleared as I'm betting it's mostly the clear coat layer.

Yup...feel your pain. Mine came w/ extensive OP as well as the above problem. GM rep turned a deaf ear...

My DSOM had the same thing you describing, a frosty look. I was able to polish it out, without too much work. My car did have some paint corrections done at the museum, in areas that became frosty looking. The frosty look didn't show up until got the car into the bright sun light. I hope yours is also an easy fix.

Im no expert but it may be that slight repairs were made to the panels before or after painting at the plant. They do fill and level here and there minor irregularities before sending them to the paint shop. I would try a clear coat safe scratch remover on a wax pad over the areas and after several treatments see if it looks like the spot improves at all. If not you are in for paint repair.

I had one area on my left front fender that looked exactly the same. It was caused by paint correction at the factory as evidenced by compound found under a trim piece on the fender in the engine bay. A two step polish with a orbital cleared it right up. I wouldn't let a dealer touch it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I agree it looks like repair work. I'll give the polishing a try if showing it to a dealer doesn't help. I wonder how hard it would be to replace the panels? Probably have trouble getting a paint match.
My car is a 2014 vin#2107

There sure seem to be more paint issues with the '15's than the '14's. I have an early C7, #307, and my paint is great. I have seen later '14's and '15's at dealers that definitely have some problems. Did they change something in the paint process or just speed up the system to keep up with production? I would not accept one with serious issues until after the dealer (or a pro detailer) was given a chance to correct it. The problem is with the excitement of finally taking delivery it's easy to just glance over the car and taking in the big picture, not paying attention to detail.

Live with it. I played perfect paint job one time on a new car and the paint was ruined, worse than before. If your are going to drive the car, blemishes will happen. My car got a light stone chip on the front the first time out, go figure.

I have had good luck with minor scratches using Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0.

I saw a Red Z06 yesterday at a local dealer. Beautiful car.... but, dare I say it, orange peel was prevalent on the entire car. It was as bad as I've ever seen on a car. A crystal red Camaro (not called CR but same paint) was sitting close by on the floor and was much better.

Is Orange peel a game changer? Depends on how badly you want to depart with your $100k....

I "think" I have a '15 coming (if I can get the painted top)....I hope its' paint is better, it can't be any worse.
