Are the maps in the Nav unit updateable? If so, how, and how often?
The nice thing about say, Android's map up is that the map data is updated remarkably quickly. My stand-alone GPS seems to never be up to date with road construction, for example.
FYI the company that sells the updates is not GM. I bought a new 2014 in December and within a week found out that there was an update available. I tried to get a freebie but my selling dealer (and GM) couldn't get it for me. The company that sells it was totally unreceptive to my argument too, almost to the point of being rude.
Standard price for these updates. About six months ago, ordered the map updates for my wife's Ford Mustang GT. Just ordered the updates for my 2014 Corvette. Dropped $65,000 for the car, not going to complain about $160 (plus tax/shipping).
You would think that after spending this kind of money on a car that the map updates would be provided at least through the warranty period. They could be downloadable with the entry of a VIN or maybe sold for the price of just the stick device with S&H. IMHO anyway.
I moved into a new house about six months ago and the street is not on any of the navigation systems, even for the 2015 corvette. Google maps is MUCH better as they recognize new streets within a couple of months.

The early C6's came with 2 free updates, that would have been nice to have on the C7!
I usually buy an update every third year or so, as we now have 4 vehicles with factory nav systems. All are in the $150-200 range for updates. Unfortunately, the 2 vettes have updates keyed to the VIN, so we can't buy one and share.
And this thread is exactly why Apple's CarPlay and Android's system have value for us users. They will be able to be updated just like your phones are. This means that the time for our systems to be obsolete will be extended. Not that they won't be at some point, but they will get years of updates first.

I got my first factory Nav system in my recently purchased daily driver and plan to get updates to the maps maybe every 3-4 years. I've also got a Garmin Nuvi that I've had for about four years and it still gets me where I need to go so can't see upgrading the factory maps all that often.
