I'm a moderator on a large 4x4 forum. It's the ultimate no-win situation. No pay and somebody always disagrees with you and thinks you are doing it wrong.
My only comment about the CF C7 General Discussion is......
Why are Vendors allowed to make "sales posts or product solicitations" in the C7 General Discussion section when they have their own section C7 Vendors.
The C7 General Discussion section gets loaded with "sales pitches" for products and this continues to be allowed. It is a daily occurence.
Why is this allowed?
C7 General Discussion is about topics of discussion and relative points of information to be discussed, and should not be used as a sales section.
Hopefully the moderators of this forum, which appear to be very liberal with posts and threads can discuss this issue between them and correct this.
C7 Vendors should only be allowed to make their sales pitch in the C7 Vendor section. That is what the C7 Vendors section is for, isn't it? I realize this website is a revenue generating website from vendors, for the company that owns the right to the website (Internet Brands Automotive), but these vendors should show some respect to the overall members and post their products for sale in the appropriate section.
If CF members want to buy products for their C7 cars or any other generation, they can easily go the "Vendor section" and research what's available.
Actually, the rules for the C7 General section relative to vendor sales threads are very restrictive compared to the other generations (C6 General, etc.). In C7 General, vendors are limited to only one For Sale thread in a 48 hour directory (all threads updated in the past 48 hours), and this often spans several forum directory pages. Timely response to a members question does not count against this limit. By contrast, other generations allow 3 For Sale threads PER Vendor on the FIRST page of the thread directory.
I agree that the moderators do not necessarily make the rules, they're simply trying to enforce the rules that are in place. In some cases, it is obvious why the threads were closed (although I agree that the offenders should be warned or their posts removed instead of simply closing the entire thread). A handful of bad apples should not end the entire debate. I also find that "heated debates" are often construed as inappropriate, when it really isn't.
I do have a problem with threads that are closed without a justifiable reason. I specifically remember a thread a few weeks back that debated shady business practices regarding vendors hiding wheel prices. A moderator closed it and simply said "this thread has been answered." No...it wasn't and the debate was relatively civil. The fact that the moderator was content with his own conclusion did not give him the right to end the entire debate. It almost felt as they were supporting vendors and the moderator was trying to stifle any negative criticisms.
Guys, the bottom line is that there are Forum rules in place. Rules that you supposedly read before signing on as a Member of this site.
If grown men feel the need to be immature babies, start cussing at each other, start a pissing match or open a thread that is off topic or doesn't relate to the C7 Corvette, our job (which we do not get paid for) is to make sure that CorvetteForum is a fun and enjoyable place to hang out.
When I became a Moderator last year here, the C7 Community was flat-out hostile. It's become better, but you actually can do your part to insure immature members don't carry out these bad things......................IGNORE THEM! IGNORE THEIR POSTS AND REPORT THEM.
Too many of you have the attitude of, "I couldn't resist-I call it like I see it" when someone starts a fight. When you join in the fight, all you're doing is making things worse. Plus, you lower yourself to the instigator's level. YOU LOOK AS BAD AS THE GUY WHO STARTED THE FIGHT! Who wants that?????
Do your part to keep the C7 Community a non-hostile environment and a fun place to hang out!!!!!

You don't do a good job, Steven, you do a GREAT job. Wish at times the mods would step in sooner especially for the serial trolls. To participate in (and moderate) an internet forum it's a plus to have thick skin and small ears.
Do we get points for being the first to predict a thread lock as long as we didn't contribute to the lock? Maybe vendor credit or something And in order to stop people from blindly predicting locks to get credit, if they predict a lock and it doesn't get locked, they owe money to someone (maybe St. Jude's). I would just like to point out that I predicted this thread to be locked first and would like to be rewarded as such
I'll split the winnings with you if you lock it!

He said you didn't do a good job and that you have small ears. Exile him leader

My Dad taught me the following;
Son, "don't argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience".

Yea.. That thread was pretty much going nowhere fast and prolly deserved to get the axe... as this one will at some point once it turns into part II of the closed thread. I've seen worse though. Personal attacks rarely get beyond "stupid", "dumb", or "idiot" on here at least. I say present yourself on here as you do in real life. Treat people as you would in a real debate. Would you call a stranger a the local bar "idiot" while having a debate about something? I know I wouldn't.

So true. My Dad had a little different take on this. He said, "Don't argue with an idiot, it makes it hard for people to tell the difference."
Steven, you guys do a fine job. It's hard for me to believe that grown people at our age (which averages a bit older than most forums) can fall into the rabbit hole so quickly.

Rebel Yell your right as I fell into the rabbit hole a month or so. My hot button was pushed. I know better and I'm sorry I did get into a hot debate. Steve was nice and tried to explain to me what was going on. So that was the first and last time for me. Hell I'm more embarrassed then anything else.
