Huge kudos to Steven and John for even keeping this thread open. If I'm not mistaken, the forum administration still respectfully requests that such topics be discussed with moderators via PM and not in open threads (and appropriately so) yet Steven and John have tactfully responded here and kept the thread open. I think I speak for many of us in stating that we appreciate it.
Guys, the bottom line is this: Forum Rules are there to insure the integrity of the site. I did not write the rules. I'm simply trying to enforce them.
We are all grown adults. The Golden Rule is in effect here too....treat others as you would want to be treated. I shake my head in disappointment every time I see grown men pissing on each other.
We are all here because we love this car. We're here to share that, help others and exchange valued information about Corvette. When you're not doing that, you're breaking the rules. Just as in life, there are consequences when you break rules.
Im glad to see that 'some' moderators here enforce the rules. Can you share that logic with the CFOT moderators who run a free-for-all? This forum has much more civility than the OT forum which is infested with rodents and rules are ignored by everyone including those tasked with enforcing them.

your personal issues with an "Off Topic" forum are well known and have zero to do with what happens elsewhere on the forum.
As I said before your best choice is to remain in the General Sections where it is "safe".
The senior Mods and Admins moderate OT and PRC for a reason, not that others aren't capable its just that we know the players better as we have been here longer. We know the personalities, the difference between actual hostility and members who have a history of ribbing that outsiders don't understand or appreciate.
Either that or the new guys are smarter
:seey
and now back to your regularly scheduled C7 moderator discussion.

Thanks, Mike. Steven and I are trying to encourage an open discussion about moderation, the rules, etc.

If you don't like the CFOT environment, just stay away from it. I don't like the environment there, so I just don't go there.
The fact is that CFOT is (and always has been) moderated differently than other sections. This is intentional. If you don't like the CFOT environment, just stay away from it. I don't like the environment there, so I just don't go there.
Yeah, and when I saw your post, I edited mine as you did a better job of explaining CFOT moderation. Not quick enough though as you quoted my post before I changed it.

in 15 plus years it never fails to amaze me the number of people who bitch about CFOT but can't stay away
I stayed out of PRC for about 12 years but now I dabble in it and moderate infrequently as Mike does better without my interference. I only moderate blatant things otherwise its the Wild Wild West

I've been a member of this forum for quite a few years. I've seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. But, tremendously more Good than the other 2.
Hats off to all moderators here.....past, present and future. It's a difficult job, at best. Thanks for all you do and for keeping this Forum one of the best on the net---
I know, I know... I'm prejudice. And your point is?
We know the personalities, the difference between actual hostility and members who have a history of ribbing that outsiders don't understand or appreciate.
Regardless of which forum something is posted in or how long a user has been a member, when a rule is broken there needs to be consequences....that doesn't seem to apply to CFOT.
For example, last week someone asked for opinions on how to get away with tax fraud, a clear violation of the websites rules which we have all agreed to when joining however, the thread was allowed to continue and the member didn't suffer any consequences. In order to maintain civility there needs be to a price to pay when violating the rules irregardless of how long that person has been a member!
I think this site would be a more enjoyable place if the rules were enforced as they are written rather than the random enforcement which we see too frequently in certain forums.

ok, you don't get it.....I'm done discussing it with you....its hopeless
its kinda like this.....the speed limit is 65....traffic is all doing 72....cops ignore it because everyone is doing fine.....you come along doing 85 you are gonna get popped.....yeah everyone was technically speeding but you were way out of line....thats how we do it in CFOT. IOW, don't be the obvious idiot and push it too far. We enforce the rules plenty in OT not just the way you would like.
i agree with having the rules, but i have noticed they don't seem to be the same for everyone .
1st offenses and 5th offenses are dealt with differently and what you see may not accurately reflect what actually happens....also depends on which moderator handles it...lots of variables. If you provide me with examples/links I will be happy to look at it and try and tell you why things were done or not done.
And hence the reason why the inmates run the asylum. What a terrible analogy.
I disagree-I think the analogy is excellent. The OT forum by defintion deals with opinions on subjects that people often have very strong opinions on and should be handled a little differently than the general C7 forum.

People can't be civil when discussing heated topics? How about blatantly breaking the website's rules when asking for advice in the CFOT on breaking the law and partaking in tax fraud? Is that equivalent to doing 72 in a 65? I think not! You break the rules you pay the price. That doesn't apply apply to certain members and that's not ok with me.
