Default Closing Threads

When one guy violates the "rules" on any thread, the thread is closed to everyone. That is pure liberal logic. Instead of punishing the offender, everyone else is punished too. Go figure.

I have not observed that. A number of years ago I inadvertently did not "follow a rule." I was sent a PM that told my why my post of eliminated! The thread continued.
If several folks start a "debate contest" using personal attacks etc have seen the thread be stopped but those threads were usually running past where there was useful information being presented. You can always start a new thread on the same subject.

This should go well. Or not.

There are a couple of forums here where this might fit. C7 Gen ain't one of 'em.

It was on this C7 forum that a thread got closed because one guy violated the "rules". See this https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...b-alert-3.html

That is why the OP was put here.

Dracla, I'll be happy to address this for you.

Forum rules strictly prohibit name calling, trolling, pissing matches and getting off topic. If we, as Moderators, see that the thread is doing any of the three or a combination of these, we can close the thread due to those reasons.

Yes, it's sad because a few spoil things for others. If you see problems, you can send me or Zymurgy a PM. We can deal with it. Or, you can use the Report Post button to let us know of a problem.

But if you have other questions pertinent to the thread's topic, you can also send a PM to the people who HAVE answered the questions.

Your example above (about the Red Light thread) is incorrect. There were more than one person involved in a pissing match and calling each other idiots. I closed that thread. Both were sighted and points against them were assessed. Because of the name calling, the thread had gotten off topic.

It's sad when grown men act like immature teenagers and start calling each other names. You'd think that a little more decorum would be used on a site like this. We all share a common affinity-the Corvette. Maybe forum members will grow up and act their age......

Your example above (in the Red Light thread is incorrect). There were guys calling each

You are the one who said the thread was closed due to "Name calling is forbidden". The name caller should be banned, or whatever moderators do. Now you seem to have a different reason for closing the thread. Changing the reason/subject works for many. Regards.

Absolutely not-I closed the thread because it was going off topic and because of the name calling.

Both people were given warnings. We do not simply ban the offenders. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance-even you! Then, if the problem persists, they are banned.

I'll take a 2nd look at the thread-I can possibly reopen it.

^ This. Threads aren't getting closed because one person violates the rules. They're getting closed because they turn into massive flame wars.

It's a shame that forum rules prohibit these types of genuine discussion but allow vendor advertisement click bait. Yesterday I clicked on a Toyota sponsored post about a hi-lux pickup only to be taken to a post about minivans. The forums have changed a lot over the years and not for the better.

We are all adults and while name calling is frowned upon by all, I think people should be more mature in their reaction.

I still remember siihp as being a appropriate response to just about anything -- heck there may have even been an emoji with that on a sign!

Our over protective sheltered society is a mess and I weep for the future.

Trophies for all and no name calling!!!

Exactly. That thread was just a big pointless battle with lots of irrelevant political comments tacked on. Plus the OP asked for it to be closed since it was so far off topic. I'm glad the mods shut it down. Perhaps that will encourage people to keep things under control and act like adults or at the very least like well behaved children.

Guys, the bottom line is this: Forum Rules are there to insure the integrity of the site. I did not write the rules. I'm simply trying to enforce them.

We are all grown adults. The Golden Rule is in effect here too....treat others as you would want to be treated. I shake my head in disappointment every time I see grown men pissing on each other.

We are all here because we love this car. We're here to share that, help others and exchange valued information about Corvette. When you're not doing that, you're breaking the rules. Just as in life, there are consequences when you break rules.

I don't know which thread it was because a lot of them have been closed. It happens.

Oh, and INB4 the lock

I'm sure you get a bunch of crap Steven, but you do a good job

This.

I'm a moderator on a large 4x4 forum. It's the ultimate no-win situation. No pay and somebody always disagrees with you and thinks you are doing it wrong.

My only comment about the CF C7 General Discussion is......

Why are Vendors allowed to make "sales posts or product solicitations" in the C7 General Discussion section when they have their own section C7 Vendors.

The C7 General Discussion section gets loaded with "sales pitches" for products and this continues to be allowed. It is a daily occurence.

Why is this allowed?

C7 General Discussion is about topics of discussion and relative points of information to be discussed, and should not be used as a sales section.

Hopefully the moderators of this forum, which appear to be very liberal with posts and threads can discuss this issue between them and correct this.

C7 Vendors should only be allowed to make their sales pitch in the C7 Vendor section. That is what the C7 Vendors section is for, isn't it? I realize this website is a revenue generating website from vendors, for the company that owns the right to the website (Internet Brands Automotive), but these vendors should show some respect to the overall members and post their products for sale in the appropriate section.

If CF members want to buy products for their C7 cars or any other generation, they can easily go the "Vendor section" and research what's available.

I'm sure you actually do a crappy job and all of the criticism is warranted

DON'T BAN ME, IT WAS A JOKE!
