In each CD folder I have the tracks from that particular CD. When I want to play a particular CD I simply select the 1st track on that CD and the CD then plays in its entirety.

I hope this makes sense!
I will try your set up; however, I am confused by top level folder, second level folders and third level folders? Does that have something to do with partitioning?

Much appreciated.

Enjoy your holiday weekend.

Jim - it's just a way of organizing the music on the drive. I'll try to clarify:

With your flash drive plugged in to your computer, access the drive through Windows Explorer. Create and name a folder for each type of music you want to have on your drive. I have separate folders for Rock/Pop, Jazz , Classical, etc.

Following the same procedure, create a folder for each artist under the appropriate genre folder. For example, under your Rock / Pop folder, create a folder for Genesis, another for Journey, another for Tom Petty, etc.

Under each artist's folder, create a new folder for each CD by that artist. For example, under your Genesis folder, create a folder for Invisible Touch, another for Abacab, etc.

After ripping a CD, just move the tracks to that CD's folder.

Once you're done with this process, it's very easy to navigate your music collection on your car's center screen.

If you'd like additional help, feel free to send me a PM; I'll then send you my phone number and we can talk through it.

Have you ever tried to make playlists? That's what I could never figure out how to do with USB.

Kudos and many thanks to MPUZAH. He walked me thru the process. It could not have been more timely because I left for a meeting in Columbus at 5:30 AM.

This forum is so fortunate to have individuals like him who will give their time to help someone else out.

Now I have to get my baby back in for what I think is a transparent roof rattle in the right rear. It is very loud and annoying.

Happy Memorial Day. And thanks to everyone on this forum who has served.

It appears that the directory structure is more for us to keep things straight than for the car. As an experiment I took my spare flash drive and dumped a couple hundred mp3 files to it without creating any directory structure and my C7 sorted it based on artist, album, composer, genre etc. depending on what you selected on the touch screen. Almost all of my mp3 files had a genre of misc. But here is the good news if you right click on a file or group of files and select properties at the bottom of the menu and then select the details tab at the top you can change the genre, artist, album etc. to any name you want. So for example my daughter created me a music mix CD that had music from 20 different albums so after I ripped it to mp3 files I changed all of the album names to Vette Mix 1 that way I can play my entire music mix cd by selecting the album name Vette Mix 1. The selection of properties and details on the mp3 files is done using the standard windows explorer stuff on your PC.

Mp3s just don't sound as good as CDs. Some of the lossless stuff is ok.

Oh well, I guess its just like the rest of 'merica. Quantity over quality.

At least the 2014 has HD radio.

Depends on the MP3. If you rip them at 302kbps they sound almost identical to CDs, on most systems 256kpbs sounds CD quality. I have almost all of mine at 256kpbs. I can't tell the difference 90% of the time (some of the more musically deep tracks do have a difference).

However if you go down to 128kpbs or even 64kpbs you notice a difference.
