I think I might try out the Top Flight too. I'm still using my dealer plates since I can't quite bring myself to do it.
Just a word of caution to those who still have the dealer plate installed which sits above the grill: It is wearing a line in the clear coat of your car.
It was 3 days (500 miles) from when I picked up my car till I got home, and that was long enough to put a mark that took a fair bit of buffing to remove. I should have bought two screwdrivers and removed it as soon as I left the dealer.
You would in TX. It's no longer a fix it ticket. $200 first offense. Keeps increasing with each repeat offense.
Guess I am lucky in Austin.
I was pulled over August 2014 for excessive speed and no front plate. Officer told me I would get ticketed if I had a prior warning for no plate. It was the first offense so I only got a warning for both.
I was pulled over yesterday for going over posted speed limit and no front plate. I was on the same stretch of road and darn if it wasn't the same officer! Before he went to his car to check my stats he said I would only get a warning for both. When he came back from his car he had me sign the warning and said that he had made my acquaintance last August for the same offenses and that I should slow down and get a front plate on.
I am now going to get the brackets to put the aeroplate on my Z06 grille.
Military base driving privilege loss is a different story, (don't they have more important security initiatives to manage with their time than to go after people with missing front plates?).
For daily local driving though, I'll take my chances on a ticket. It's only $30.50 (here in MO) for the offence.
I can afford to pay that once in a while if necessary.
I've driven my '08 almost daily since new and never been pulled over for it, nor even had it addressed when pulled over several times over the years.
I think maybe most officers look the other way with Vettes it seems.
Maybe my new '14 will get more attention though. We'll see.
