When I decided to buy the 2015 my wife hated the idea. She said only fat old men drove vettes, to which I answered you just described me. But as I pondered what she said I remembered as a teenager whenever I saw a guy in a nice muscle car that was 40 or over, I said what a waste. So I decided to explore my options, I did demo rides in Porsche, Mazzarati, Jaguar, Shelby Mustangs, Aston Martin and Audi. I was pretending I could afford any of these and just wanted to find a possible better choice to both please the Mrs and satisfy my interest.
Well after the month it took to do this, I ordered the Vette. Nothing really came close when I factored in the cost. Without considering cost the Corvette was still the clear winner to me. Corvette proves if it seems too good to be true, it might just be.
My latest Corvette story purely for entertainment purposes.
Buy what you want and want what you buy. I don't think it was right for your wife to pass comment about who buys a Corvette unless she is a fit young woman.
I am in a similar situation. I've driven BMWs and Audis since stationed in Germany in the late '70s. My wife knows I have always wanted a Corvette but when I told her I was actually going to buy one she said, "Oh please, only old men and rednecks drive Corvettes". I just shrugged and said, "oh well, this pretty much is me, I am old and I like country music". Ordered my car in April but she still isn't happy. Life goes on.

What is it with some women these days ? My wife is very supportive of my Corvette habit. I think you guys with the condescending wives should tell them not to wear jeans because "only girls with nice trim butts should wear jeans". See how they like it.
my wife loves "our" vette she would prob shoot me if I tried to tell her I wanted to get something else, since we have gotten it everyday she asks me where are we taking it today, this is the first car she has been enthusiastic about.
I've had a bad C2 habit for many years, she is used to it and doesn't mind that as I've always had other daily drivers. Because she has a Range Rover and a 550SL I really don't give a damn what she wants me to drive. But after 35 years of marital bliss I've learned to act like I'm interested in her opinion.

I'm 44. Have owned my C7 for about 2 months and have yet to have anyone make stereotypical comments about old people or rednecks. Everyone regardless of age is very enthusiastic about the car.
As for being over 40 and the sports car being a waste: The main difference at over 40 the average guy is less likely to do dumb things with the car. We're not dead yet though. I still get on my cars all the time. My 69 year old father who's on here is even more aggressive than I am and has faster cars.

My wife sorta said the same thing as the OP's wife.

Hmmmm....Well I'm 32 and I'd like to think I'm not too fat! I also don't consider myself to be a "redneck"! I am a little country though. However I've never really been too interested in Corvettes until the C7. Always more interested in exotics. I fully feel the new C7 shouldn't be thought of as an old mans car anymore! It definitely appeals to a younger generation nowadays!
EDIT: I should have said..."It definitely appeals to ALL generations nowadays"!!!
