It's not the paint; it's the clear coat. I'm going to machine polish mine to get it right, but as much as I'm spending on a dual action polisher, pads, compound and finishing polish I should of probably just paid some one to do it
(I'm not that picky, but reflections are definitely distorted and not mirror like)
I don't think this will work... You need to wet sand to try to level out the clear, then buff to restore the finish . I wouldn't try this yourself because there is very little clear to work with and if you sand /buff through you will be faced with a bigger problem . I also bought a Porter Cable polisher , great tool but not going to fix the orange peel.
I will not bitch about the paint, fit and finish, but I got rid of my Z06 and picked up a 911 last week. I do not understand the "It's a Chevy" mentality.
Can you please post how the cars compare? Was the C7 your first corvette? Which 911 model did you get?

Hopefully you will understand "it's a Porsche " mentality when you bring it in for service.

Dan,
I had a 14 C7 and got a 15 Z06 last May. I am in a 2016 Black Edition standard 911 with the PDK. The Porsche suites me better for daily driving. The fit and finish is far better than the Z06 and the PDK is terrific. The performance of the Z06 was at a much higher level than the 91, but I can only go so fast on public roads and do not track the car so the 911 works fine. We also have an Audi A6 and a A3 in the household and the fit and finish of all is terrific.

I have to agree on the fit and finish of VW/Audi/Porsche products. I have had several, including my current DD, a 2013 A6. It is probably as close to perfect in terms of fit and finish including the paint. Also, Audi interiors are simply elegant and functional. GM has come a long way but the C7 is not in the same class, yet, in terms of fit and finish.
That said, for the money the C7 is great performer. My main concern is reliability as it is the first American car I have owned in more than 30 years. Time will tell.

I know what you mean. I ended up with a Turbo but would like to add the Z06 when they get the little things resolved. looking forward to the new paint facility but not sure they will get the fit and finish close to the Turbo.
As someone mentioned the base C7 is a 55K car so fit, finish and things found in cars costing 3X's just won’t be there. I'm actually starting to accept that. It makes sense. Good luck with the 911.

If they can't be beat join them. It is all about horsepower and acceptable quality, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There are a lot of choices when C7's are in the 6 figure price range. When will Corvette owner look at other brands instead of knocking them, there are a lot better cars in this price range.

I have owned 10 Corvettes since 1991. And have owned Porsches, Ferraris, a Viper, you name it. As far as reliability goes, the Vettes were the most reliable cars that I have ever owned. I have a triple black Sting Ray convertible on order. My buddy took delivery of his black C7 coupe in June. I saw it yesterday outside in the sun light, and examined the paint close up. It was flawless.

"You name it" means every type of car built? Good thing we're on the internet.
Are you saying the owners that received C7s with questionable paint are not telling the truth? Who said anything about reliability this is about paint.
Sold our 2007 Corvette and were planning on a 2016 Z06 convertible. This would have been my tenth Corvette. Corvettes have been very dear to me since watching the first showing of Route 66. I will admit, I am very meticulous with my cars, especially Corvettes. In preparing to order a new Corvette and having a little problem choosing a color we liked, we visited many dealerships to determine the color we would order. Every single Corvette we looked at had a large degree of orange peel. Enough that I would not consider buying the car if it was what we liked.
A new Corvette does not appear to be in our future. Hurts me to say that because I truly love Corvettes. But I refuse to spend nearly $100,000 for a car that irritates me every time I look at it, and even more when I detail it. For some, the lack of paint quality is not an issue, but for some of us, it is. If Corvette sales tanked because of poor paint, GM would solve it immediately. But as long as people except poor quality, there is little reason for a manufacturer to change. Three times I mentioned the paint problem to the dealers and received the same basic response. That is just the way Corvettes are painted today. Sad excuse for poor quality on an expensive car.
Perhaps a Porsche is in your future, paint will be fine but be prepared for a whole set of other problems. Every choice has its tradeoffs.

I was responding to rmorin1249's comment about the reliability of American cars. And yes, having owned 40 something cars in my life gives me some amount of latitude to compare corvette reliability to other sports car brands. My other comment in regard to my buddy's black C7 coupe being perfect in no way discounts other owners having paint problems. It just conveys the fact that not all C7's including black ones, have questionable paint jobs. I hope you don't have a problem with any of this.

oh sure it was ...if it was flawless...it is the first ....
Took delivery on Monday 10/12/16 - Corvette Racing Yellow. Great car and gorgeous color. Love it. Exceeds my expectations in every way... except the quality of the paint job. Read a bunch of these paint quality threads and really didn't know what to expect. I really thought the orange peel was being over exaggerated. Well, it's not. The amount of orange peel is bad.
It doesn't make me think less of the car or regret my decision to purchase. I bought the car because it looks bad azz, is fun as heck to drive and - IMO - offers the best looks and performance for the money. But the orange peel is a real issue.
I'm having CQuartz Finest installed tomorrow by a true pro that has been detailing cars for 30 years. He only does high end cars now and is a detailing fanatic. It will be interesting to hear his thoughts. My hunch is he will say it's fairly bad, sees OP on all production cars and the only time he doesn't see it is on custom (non-manufacturer) paint jobs.

Not at all. And I agree not all C7s have awful paint, but buying sight un seen is a risk. Good paint and straight body panels are also subjective.
I'm being told we're paying for supercar looks and supercar performance, but economy car everything else. Maybe they're right.
Well after reading all the negative complaints I will put my 2 cents
in. First I don't have a C7, I have a 15 year old vette with good paint.
At corvette shows I see C7's and they all have poor paint. I always
tell the owner--"You have a nice vette" with no exceptions. Why
should I destroys their ego's. So I understand that their should be
a lot of complaints with GM. Why don't you complain to a second
party, Safecar, BBB, etc. If they get enough complaint's it will
become new's worthy and GM does not want bad publicity. Just
a thought.
