It's called generally speaking. This whole political correctness thing is getting to be too much. Everyone gets offended for the slightest thing. It's complete madness.
...no I'm pretty sure it's called stereotyping. Myself and the other 20/30 something year olds above me aren't "offended," as you say. We are just telling you that you are making baseless assumptions about how we drive our cars.
LOL at the mere thought of buying a used & abused rental Vette. Hec, I'm not buying a rental economy car.
Do you see how most rental car companies treat their rental cars when just driving them around the lot, let alone the renters themselves? If you don't have enough money to get a well maintained, used sports car, just keep saving your money.
Police Cars, Rental Cars, you kind of know what you can make a lot of assumptions. Yet there are tons of them on the road doing just fine. Cars can handle a bit. I think you can assume that there could be a bit of wear and tear on the car, lots of areas where it could be scratched, scuffed, etc. Should have good maintenance records, check them and check the car over thoroughly.
IMHO, I would expect a slightly lower value on a like configured / mileage car that was owned by a private party to cover the potential extra abuse. But I wouldn't be terribly worried. Inspect closely, if it is what you're willing to go for then I wouldn't run away if it all checks out....
Case in point: I was once driving a rental with a few buddies, and I guess I was driving it harder or with less respect than I would my own car. Someone mentioned it, and I said:
"Hey, it's a rental"
At that point I realized I had rented it from Avis, and my brother in law owns that franchise, and he was sitting in the back seat:
"Yeah, but it's MY rental!"
What are the odds, when you beat on a rental, that the owner is sitting in the back seat? It was a little surreal :-)
I would not touch a Hertz car. If you are set on it, I suggest you pay a very high rated mechanic to do an extensive check of the car.
Uh, no one should be set on a Hertz rental Vette for purchase. It's just silly to be this desperate for an indulgence such as a sports car.
If you're 'penching pennies' to squeeze into a cheap Vette, just save your money until you can truly afford a well-maintained used one.
Yes, life is short, but getting into a rental sports car is just asking for a frustrating ownership experience, IMO. I wouldn't even want a low-mileage rental sports car, like less than 10,000 miles.

I rented a 14 vert for 3 days in Scottsdale from Enterprise Exotics before I got my 14 coupe..... My wife and I had a blast went up to Sedona ....it sealed the deal we bought a new one 2 weeks after we got back home........The rental car had 6k on it was in perfect shape and ran great.....if the rental company certifies it with a warranty or supplements the factory warranty why not??? if you like the deal go for it...
