We are attending a 40th year class reunion this weekend for my wifes high school class. It is about 5 hours away in a small town in SE Texas. We are debating on which car to drive, the Vette or the DD (2013 ATS.) We have had Corvettes for about 15 years now, but have also not lived in that area for many years. Some of those in attendance may not have fared so well during that time as it is a pretty low income area. In fact I grew up poor but did not know it until many years later. Since we have the new 3LT coupe, my wife (and I guess myself) are a little concerned that some may think we are driving the Vette to show off. Of course that would not be the case at all since there are some nice roads that I can drive on the way down and back, but some may take it that way. Because of the location of the reunion, many of those in attendance will undoubtable see the car either when we arrive or depart. I know this is not a Ferrari...
Take the Vette.....you were successful enough to buy the Corvette because you earned it.
While it may be a poor area, you might be surprised who shows up and what they might be driving or how elegent your past female classmates might be dressed.
Drive the car, and be proud of your accomplishments.
In my book, life's too short to worry about what other people think. Drive the Corvette and have a good time, that's why you're going.
Take the Vette... I honestly don't think that everyone will be waiting at the entrance with balloons looking for you. Anyone who cares what you drive and says anything are haters and weren't your friends from the get go.... remember high school's over and this is the real world now.
The Corvette is the choice. The way I see it, everyone had to make choices in their lives and if they chose to stay in the small town and not want to move away, that is on them. I had the same situation where I grew up. Going back to a family reunion and at that time I drove the M3. I had one person make a snide remark, and I told him to move 50 miles away (yes 50) and he would make three times the money in his field. I live 1800 miles away
I attended my 50th high school reunion in a small central MO town a few years ago. I drove the vette I had then, and 3 others in my class drove their vettes. Out of a class of 68. You can buy a pickup or SUV now that lists for more than a vette.
I have a good answer for people who question the Vette. I just ask them if their $50,000 dually pickup will get 30+ mpg on a trip. It's an 'economy car'.
Really? You're entitled to take the Vette. You worked hard for it and should be proud that you are successful enough to have the car. If there are people at the reunion who are PO'ed because you drove your new car then that is their problem. They would be just as miffed if you drove the Caddy.
Success today is almost treated as bad as homelessness.
It is nice that you are thoughtful enough to be concerned about which car you take, but honestly it won't matter one day. I don't think your final reward will be destroyed because you drove the Corvette.
Drive the Vette and be proud that you have succeeded in life, I am sure that your wife is.
We are attending a 40th year class reunion...which car to drive, the Vette or the DD (2013 ATS.)
My 50th is 175 miles away in October and I have three choices: The Vette, a Nissan pickup truck, or a Harley Street Glide. Needless to say the Vette will be the choice, but I won't flaunt it in any way. If someone wants to talk about it I'll gladly participate, but I won't be doing any "Hey, all of you guys come out and see my new Vette!"
Went to mine 2 years ago and of course I drove my Vette. All 1380 miles to get there. To show off.... really ? Maybe a little and with my cute new wife too.
