Had a suede steering wheel on my CTS-V coupe. After a while they get matted down from the oils on your hands. A wet microfiber with a drop of dawn dishwashing liguid will clean the wheel. Rince with a damp microfiber then brush up the nap with a dry microfiber and it will look like new again.

I did not like the feel of the suede so I wound up swapping it for a leather one.

Is your inserts painted. Dipped. Carbon fiber? I like it

Right, it's Alcantara, not suede. Had it in my CTS-V and used a little Aerospace 303 and a stiff brush and it sealed and cleaned it. 3 years later, it still looked perfect. It will soak up the oils in your hand if not sealed. Did teh same when I went to Z06 Alcantara wheel in my 15.

Like anything else, the right products will keep it looking good for years.

I was also at Spring Mountain last Wednesday and Thursday when it was 109 degrees. The suede wheel was nice to grip but the cooled seats where the best.

Don't mind the towels. They were just there to protect the seats while I was working on it.

Sorry, old school, but the leather looks so much better... the alcantra looks like a kindergarten kid's funny bunny...

How difficult is the steering wheel removal/re-installation? Is it easy to put back correctly on center? Any special tools needed? TIA

It's not suede or leather. It's Alcantara, a 100% synthetic material. So it will wear and clean up better than leather. However, it's a sponge-like material, so it will catch all kinds of dirt, skin, oil, etc. Real suede leather wouldn't last very long.

There is a very similar synthetic material called "Ultra Suede" which adds more to the confusion. Wikipedia will tell you more about both materials.

Personal opinion my friend. I could give a sh*t how it looks to others. It feels good under my hands and that is all that matter to me. I don't do mods for others, I do them for ME.
