Default 3LT question...

If you upgrade to the 3LT but do NOT get the suede inserts on the seats (base GT seats) do the door panels and arm rests have suede on them or just the A-Pillars, visors and headliner? The interior color is black if it makes any difference.

No microsuede on door panels or dash; it's on the a-pillars, windshield header, headliner, visors, and inside of targa hoop only.

On another note, have you had an opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison of the solid black 2LT and 3LT interiors? If so, I'm interested in knowing which one you prefer. Deciding between 2LT with navigation and 3LT was the toughest decision I had to make when ordering my '15 coupe. While there's no question that the black 3LT interior is very nice, so is the 2LT. Both use genuine stitched materials that have a rich look and feel. Even though the material used on the 2LT dash, door panels, and center console is man-made, it's still of excellent quality and it doesn't seem at all "fake" to me. It largely becomes a matter of whether one prefers the smooth texture of the 3LT or the slight grain of the 2LT, at least that was how I saw it. I've always maintained that if you showed both interiors to a group of people who knew nothing about them, they'd be able to tell the differences but they wouldn't be able to tell which was the more expensive choice. That in no way takes away from the 3LT - it just reinforces how good the 2LT is.

I haven't had a chance to do a side-by-side, but I have looked at literally hundreds of pictures and looked at several in person. As you mentioned, on a black interior, it's obviously the hardest to discern a difference because you don't get the color up on the dash. Here's my take:

First, in my opinion, you can go one of two ways with these Stingrays in the looks department-- racy or classy. We have two on order right now. One for my wife and I and one for my parents who are in their 70s. For ours, we went with a racy look. Torch Red with lots of black accents (exposed carbon fiber roof, stinger, machined wheels, black mirrors and spoiler, black badges). My parents are going with the classy look-- LBR with black interior, chrome wheels and body colored roof. Clean and simple.

To keep the racy look going on ours, we opted for the suede inserts on our 2LT black seats. My parents are not getting the suede inserts, so the extra Napa leather on the actual seating surfaces would be a nice upgrade whereas ours would be suede either way, so we stuck with the 2LT. We didn't feel it was worth the $3500 extra just to have leather on a small portion of the seats and dash, and the suede was not of particular interest to us.

Many users, as I'm sure you've read, report that the 3LT is the only interior that actually smells like leather. That's important to some, not so much to others. I plan on using liberal doses of Adam's Leather Conditioner on my seats, steering wheel, dash, door panels etc. so it will have a decent leather aroma regardless. If you want the real deal, obviously you upgrade to the 3LT and it will smell nice naturally.

Finally, I'm not sold on the smooth dash surface of the 3LT. I don't know this for a fact, but it seems to me that the flat surface would pose a couple of problems. First, the glare on the windshield could be worse than from the textured 2LT dash. Second, getting an even dressed look from the use of dressings can be tricky on the smooth dash.

As it stands, we both have 2LT ordered but my dad is seriously considering changing his to 3LT because they feel the Napa leather is worth the upgrade since they are not going with the suede inserts.

FWIW, I have a friend who owns a '15 coupe with the 3LT black interior (mine is 2LT black). We both have the all leather seats (no microsuede inserts). I cannot tell a difference between his seats and mine. I know all about the 2LT Mulan vs. 3LT Napa but I can't tell the seats in the two cars apart. On the other hand, the different textures on the upper dash, door panels, and center console are very easy to spot.

OK Mike,

The last time we had this conversation, you decided that you "prefer" and would've ordered the 3LT given the passage of time that you've spent looking at these interiors at your dealership for 2 years...

So come on - - which is it now, man ?? LOL

As a point of reference, only the brownstone interior with all leather seats has suede door inserts and console cover.

And leather conditioner will do nothing in conditioning your seats. Most modern leather car seats have a plastic or similar coating to protect the leather. The conditioner will not penetrate to condition. Just clean per the owners manual. Just an fyi.

For me it was the 3LT with the suede on the pillars n visors. The main reason was the red on the dash. with Two Toned (Red & Blk) seats the red on the dash makes the interior, they used a different grade of leather on the 3LT vs the 2LT and another reason was the Air Conditioned seats vs the Vented seats in the 2LT.

Unless the 2016 is different from 2014/2015 none have "air-conditioned seats" only ambient air force vented.

Gvnski speaks the truth -

All C7 2LT's and 3LT's have the same little 'computer' fans built in the seats for ventilation - that is all.

You can make it feel air conditioned by directing some of your AC to the floor, which the fans will pick up and send that cooled air up thru the seats.

Yeah, I know, Robert. You are exactly correct - I've gone back and forth on it a zillion times. In truth, I actually do slightly prefer the look and feel of the black 3LT over the black 2LT (the dash and upper door panels, specifically). In the same breath, I can honestly say that I'm in no way unhappy with my 2LT even though if I had it to do over I'd likely go with 3LT.

What I find the most interesting is the fact that 2LT is so good that it can hold its head high in comparisons with 3LT. These cars are great!

Yes, it is a very hard decision, but a happy one since 2LT and 3LT are both very worthy interiors.

But after our discussions here on this forum, much contemplating and tons of research, I'm taking delivery of a 2016 3LT Z51 coupe this week....

Now that it's FINALLY here, and built to my specs, I seriously doubt that I'll regret the decision to get 3LT black interior w/suede inserts.

Oh, and it may be the first DSOM coupe delivered with the new-for-2016 B92 Exposed Carbon Fiber Hood...

I'll be using the conditioner for the smell and the added UV protection, not so much to condition it.
