Glad to hear the experience has been about as good as possible. No runaround is always nice.

As the engines are both out, can you please take close up pictures of the intake valves? Shine a good light in each intake port and please post what you find at that mileage to get more documentation of the coking level at certain miles.

Thanks in advance!

You have the right attitude. Let them fix it and when you get it back, if it's how you want it, move on. If not, there are steps you can take to cover yourself. Why some people want to drive themselves crazy worrying about what ifs and things that are out of their control is beyond me.

Very good idea. I did plan on doing this but once they got going on my car things moved too fast.

They did tell me they were short-handed and it would take a little longer than usual. I dropped in last Wednesday on the way home from work. It looked pretty much as the picture I posted. I was told there was some work done on it, but it didn't look like it to me. I told them that I had been very patient and understanding, and still was, but that would end soon if progress wasn't made. The service manager said the guy he wants to put on it was free now and he would put him on my car/engine.

Friday morning I get a call that the car is ready! It has been test driven, re-inspected, and the service manager is washing it. I picked it up Friday afternoon and it was perfect. Not a mark or scratch anywhere, hood alignment was spot-on. It was parked out in front when I got there. The manager said he hoped that was OK with me; he liked to have it there as is draws so much attention.

So of course the car runs perfectly now (60 kms and it hasn't seized, so I'm hopeful!). The whole thing was handled so well at the dealership.

Oh, when I went to pick it up the old engine was already boxed up for shipping. I would have liked to look in the intake ports, but didn't think it was fair to have them unpack it. He said he will get a report on what GM finds. That will be interesting to see how much detail it goes into.

It took 2 weeks to the day. I don't think that is too bad for a such a major repair.

Good luck with the new engine, hopefully smooth sailing ahead.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Please let us know what they find. Even though the previous owner only drove it a little over 1,800 miles they may have driven the snot out of it and missed a few shifts if a stick. I hope this isn't a problem with yellow 2014's. Good luck and be sure to break-in the new engine because unlike the engine that came with the car this engine should have nearly zero running time.

I'm glad you posted the dealer's logo----they (and you) certainly deserve some recognition and praise for doing it the right way. I'm with the others who wish you well with this new car engine. Happy driving.

Just to close this out. I took the car in for an oil change at 1000 Km's. It is running perfectly. The service manager said that GM won't give him a report on their findings. Either that or he got one and won't share it. He is honest enough, and a real gear-head, that I think he would have told me if he knew. Not too surprising that GM wouldn't want to spread around info like this. It might be my imagination that it cranks a little faster with the new engine. Maybe something was binding up for a while. Or maybe I'm wrong.

Crap happens. It is how you are treated after that really matters. Absolutely no complaints here.

It's funny to read the service paperwork on the things that they replaced. It goes something like:

p/n xxxxxxxx - Hose
p/n xxxxxxxx - Gasket
p/n xxxxxxxx - Hose
p/n xxxxxxxx - Bolt
p/n xxxxxxxx - Nut
p/n xxxxxxxx - Engine
....

The dry sump oil lines were replaced. Apparently standard procedure when replacing a damaged engine.

Rick

- while not the same company - my Honda cracked the block -they bolted the top half of my engine onto a new block - 75k later my DD has no issues - your not going to win unless your gonna sue - I am more like you and roll with the punches instead of getting all wound up over something out of your control - but as my name suggests - I've seen things overseas that put life into perspective - very sorry that happened to you - mainly for the vette to suv Hope it goes well and your back having fun soon!
